Hi, I have a quick questions regarding the Portfolio assessment process at TESC. I have been taking Clep and DSST's for just about a year now.
I have been banking them with the idea of applying to TESC for the BSBA once I get closer to the 60-90 credit range....
How do the Portfolio assessment fees work? Will TESC review my Cleps/DSST's when I apply and charge me for each credit that I've earned via "testing out"?
Maybe I am confusing the Portfolio Assessment with the Prior Learning Assessment fees? Any help is appreciated... Trying to weigh out the benefits of applying now vs applying later once I've accumulated more credits via Clep/DSST.
Thanks for all the help!

Im pretty sure all you do for TESC is request and official copy of CLEP/DSST be sent to them and that is not part of the Portfolio assessment.

Portfolio assessments and prior learning assessments are the same thing. This is when you put together a portfolio of prior learning outside of college and have it assessed for college credit. CLEPs and DSSTs are the proof of college-level learning; they don't require a portfolio assessment/PLA. TESC does not charge to accept credits earned by CLEP, DSST, or any course/test that is ACE or NCCRS-evaluated for college credit. They also don't charge for accept transfer credits from other colleges.

I think you are confusing PLA (previous learning assessments) and credit by exam.
For CLEP/DSST/ACE or other exam sources there are no fees, or evaluation really to speak of (other than to determine where it falls in your degree plan). You simply send your transcript in from the provider and TESC assigns it.
I haven't done a PLA, but the basic idea is you build a portfolio and show that you have learned information equivalent to a class provided at a college somewhere. This has fees per credit and is generally regarded as alot of work.
Most of us on the forum take the first route, a few have done PLAs. I have not done them, so I can't comment on alot of them, but the credit by exam path is really straight forward.
I would recommend applying as soon as possible if you know your school to lock in the academic catalog. The requirements tend to get harder, not easier, as time goes by and this is determined by when you apply.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.
