Hello DegreeForum members!
More and more spammers are trying to infiltrate this forum every day and although Shotojuku and I try to keep a close eye out for them, some slip through the cracks.
If you notice a new member posting something suspicious (especially if there's a link in their post), then please take the 2 seconds to click the little "Report Post" icon at the bottom of their post. It looks like a little triangle with an exclamation mark in it. For an explanation, all you have to put is one word -- "SPAM" or "suspicious" or something along those lines.
You may not get a response from me but I sincerely appreciate it when members help police the board and I investigate every report I receive.
Thank you!

What if we receive emails? I didn't report this because I assumed this member's account may have been hacked?

Stitching Belle's emails were reported, and her password was changed. There are people trying to hack into accounts here. Cookderosa believes someone tried to hack into hers.

Haha that's friggin smart. Hacking trusted members id's so the user is more likely to click those 'suspicious' links.
The spammer is going places.

That's good to hear. I looked at her post history and assumed the account had been hacked. I did report the message I received. People get enough disinformation about distance degree without getting scammed as well.

I changed Stitching Belle's password to something more secure on February 18 and no one has logged into that account since then. I'm guessing any spam messages you all received were from before that date.
I've also added limitations to the private messaging system to try to limit the amount of spam one of these guys can generate (i.e. how many recipients they can send to at once and how long they have to wait before sending another private message).
With the limitations our login system has (i.e. 5 failed logins every 15 minutes), it shouldn't be possible for spammers to guess anyone's password unless someone's using "password" as the password or repeating their username.

Yes, someone tried to get into my account. I know because I got an alert that I'd used all 5 of my login attempts in 15 minutes!
Thanks for the reminder Steve, reporting spam keeps this place the NUMBER 1 credit by exam study site on the web!
