My prayers are with you and your family. Often a small stroke causes no lasting damage and brings on a heathier lifestyle that prolongs a life. Your family did the right thing in taking him to the hospital without delay.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hopefully your Dad will embrace a lifestyle change. FW there comes a point when it is OK for the sons of a father to challenge him in a loving way. This is one time where you can demand that he face reality and adopt a lifestyle change. The world will not end if all his worries are not addressed on his particular timetable
Also if you can let him know that no matter what happens you and your brothers will take care of their mother, that will take some of the pressure off. You don't have to step in and do his job and he won't let you, but letting him know in your way that you'll take care of mom if something happens will also get him to focus on the real issue, which is lifestyle change.

So sorry to hear about your Dad. Strokes are very serious health issues. Hopefully they can get his blood pressure under control. My Mom had several small strokes. The second took away her vision. Hopefully he heeds the warnings. Maybe they can place him on an anti anxiety medication so he can calm down and lessen his chance for a reoccurance.

Folks, remember the accronym FAST. Face, arms, speech, and time. Is the Face lopsided or is one side drooping? Can a person raise both Arms? Is s/he Speaking clearly? If not, don't waste Time, call 911 IMMEDIATELY. I think it's called a Golden Window. The victim's recovery is directly related to how quickly the stroke is addressed. Better over-respond than to under-respond.
Still praying for your father FW, and sending gratitude prayers that you were able to respond so quickly.

I am so sorry to hear about this. My prayers and thoughts are with your father, you, and the rest of your family. These situations are a big wake-up call that the things we typically stress about on a daily basis are as nothing compared to what really matters - the people around us. Money gets tight, sometimes we disagree, we get hyperfocused on degrees and other important things, but loved ones are the most valuable influences in our lives. Please take care of yourself during this difficult time. It is normal to try to take on more to take the pressure off others, but please do not forget that you are someone's valuable influence as well, and to be present and strong for them, you must also be in good health, physically and mentally.

Wow, thank you all for your words of encouragement, prayers, concerns and thoughts. We have many friends, family members, and churches praying for my father. Local Christian friends have been very loving, helpful, and encouraging. I have four bothers and two sisters, all older them me except one, so we've been able to handle the situation very clearly. My Dad was a major provider, but we are pretty diversified in incomes (we have three different businesses, with my brothers owning two, and I'm starting another). We all work in different areas, and in different capacities, but it looks like I may get another job. We can handle it, but its just getting my Dad and Mom to relax about it and let us handle the situation. We may have some big decisions coming up, but we have many wise and smart people to help us. Thanks again to you all, and I'll try and keep you updated.
Update on his health: We are trying to bring him home. His condition is stable, and it doesn't seem like the hospital can do much more, besides therapy. CT revealed no internal bleeding (very good), and the MRI, from the little information we've received, indicated that the stroke was caused by shrinkage of some arteries in his neck (I'll be checking to make sure I have this right). Information about the MRI has taken forever (it was the weekend), but to some degree, no news is good news. His right side is still numb, but he getting better movement of his leg. He can't move his arm much yet, but we'll be getting to work on that. Thankfully is hasn't affected his face much, but it is still numb and this bugs him a lot. His speech is still clear, but he usually sounds kind of sleepy (which is understandable). We are checking into alternative ways to help him regain feeling in his side (e.g. hyperbaric chamber, magnet beds, essential oils etc.).
Mrs. b, we're trying to stay healthy, and fortunately we've all been able to share the work load. I'm just trying to make sure my sisters and my Mom are getting the needed sleep and comfort. They seem to be doing fine, but I'm keeping my eye on them. It could affect them a lot more emotionally then my brothers and my self.
Thanks again. Trusting in the Lord, and staying strong.

Wow. I will definitely pray for your dad and your family. I can understand how hard it is for your family, I'm the oldest of six and my dad is the only provider for our family. If something were to happen to him I'm not sure what we'd do. Just remember that God loves you and your dad very much.
