Please Critique My Roadmap-BSLS
#1
Hello All,
I’m very new and like most people, I’m trying to develop a “roadmap” of test I will need to take to get my degree from Excelsior.
Please critique my roadmap and let me know of any changes/additions I need to make.
Don’t be shy…I have thick skin!:p

Nice formatting on your roadmap. I like the color coding. It looks like you have a lot of exams listed under "Done" but you indicate that you're very new, so I'm not sure how to interpret that, but here's what I would take a second look at:

1. You list DSST Substance Abuse and DSST Drug and Alcohol Abuse in a bunch of different places. I think Substance Abuse is the new version of Drug and Alcohol abuse. If I'm correct, they're the same test. Also, I believe you can only get credit for one exam one time--and I believe that Excelsior is still awarding lower level credit for this exam.

2. CLEP Educational Psychology is a lower-level exam.

That's what I see at first blush. I was a business student so I'm not as familiar with the LA degree requirements. Let's see what others find. Nice job!

Hi!

I do not think they will accept CLEP English Comp for the Written English Requirement. Check out all of the rules on this on p. 16 of the Liberal Arts Catalog.

Also the Student Guide to Credit by Exam says that DSST Intro to Computing and Substance Abuse are Applied Professional, so I don't think they will count toward the General Education Requirements. The same is true For Here's to Your Health and Principles of Finance, so I don't think they count as Arts and Sciences. This would mess up your psychology depth, too. (I'm a math major and I don't even know if Sociology counts toward a Psychology depth.)

You might just need to rearrange some things - your other psychology tests should go in the depth - educational, abnormal. US History could go up to the History Gen Ed.

Also be sure to choose the exams that interest you when you can; it will help to get through this process easier. For example, if you wanted you could choose to do a depth in history instead of business or psychology if you like it more.

Hopefully others on this same path can give you more insight.

I just remembered that you were asking for help with this last week.

Be sure to get these 2 guides. They will help you plug the exams into the requirements.

You’ll need to set up a free account and get their Liberal Arts Catalog:

https://www.excelsior.edu/pls/portal/doc...ATALOG.PDF

and their Student Guide to Credit by Exam:

I would look at ECE exams for upper level credit, especially for your PSYH, they have quite a few for upper level credit. And they are Not too overly difficult to pass and you will get a Grade instead of a CR.

Also check out this degree plan as an example:

http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...lsior.html

It's for a history major, so you will need to make some different choices.

The second depth is for psychology, so you can see how to build one.

There are a couple choices listed for the writtten English requirement.

I really trust Alissa's work. This will be able to guide you through some of your potential choices.
