I only have two business elective courses left for my BSBA at TESC. I am considering taking Penn Foster's Corporate Finance and Consumer Behavior courses. I have searched the forum but I have not found any threads on these courses.
Has anyone taken these courses? Were they made up of quizzes, discussion forums, proctored final, etc.? Were they difficult?
Thanks. I would appreciate any of your thoughts on these courses.

Hopefully you haven't already signed up for Corporate Finance because I would recommend you NOT take it. For an elective I think it would just be too much work. The course was like four open book quizzes, four really easy discussions, an almost impossible excel assignment (it's one of those that builds on the first numbers so everything else is inevitably wrong), and a difficult one hour proctored final. There are bound to be easier classes for a business elective than this.

I'm taking Consumer Behavior right now. I don't believe it will be considered an upper level course by TESC and I haven't confirmed how it will transfer to TESC but it is currently ACE approved.
It has three 20 question tests, a easy read book, 4 easy discussions, one paper and a proctored final exam (which I haven't taken yet).
You can review the tests before taking them to help you really focus in on the topics.
It really feels like a little more in depth "Principles of Marketing" course with a bit of psychology thrown in too.
The final exam accounts for 1/3 of the grade and requires a proctor, someone with at least an AA degree and who is not related to you. You have to request a "proctor" form (which I had to ask for because I couldn't find it anywhere) which you fax in, and then they will mail the exam to your proctor, who is then required to mail it back. Slow as molasses.
At least Strategic Management doesn't require a proctored final :-)
Not because I dislike finals, but because they don't offer ANY of the business class finals online so you have to use snail mail. At least that's what they said when I asked about trying to find a business course at Penn Foster with an online exam.

I also looked at taking their Advertising class as well. But settled on Consumer Behavior instead. I don't know if you already have an Advertising class or if you need another upper level business course.

I really enjoyed this course. To confirm, Consumer Behavior transfers as MAR351 (UL).
Final was 10-13 questions, some multipart. Most short answer (3-5 sentences), and a few short essays (7-10 sentences). Open Book. The grade posted within 10 days of return.

Thanks for the feedback on the final exam, I really appreciate it :-)
Did you transfer the credits directly from PF to TESC or did you use ACE?
Do you know how PF Marketing course will transfer into TESC? It appears to currently be ACE approved.

PF courses must first be transferred to ACE. Use the exact same process as Aleks.
The marketing course MKT301 is the equivalent of Introduction to Marketing MAR301.
If you need another marketing elective, PF marketing research would be a good option. Marketing research would transfer in as MAR411.
Also, TECEP exams Public Relations & Thought Practices, Advertising and Marketing Communications have all received good feedback.

Thank you bricabrac!
I have enrolled for the free PLA with Empire State College, specifically in small business management. Which should transfer in to TESC. However, I am unclear as to how many credits, or what level Empire will asses my PLA, how fast they will do it, and how TESC will transcribe them. So I was thinking I should do one more course with PennFoster or Straighterline now just to safely make sure I have all my required classes before the July 1st deadline for TESC graduation.
Almost complete: SL ACC 1, PF Consumer Behavior, PF Strategic Management
In progress: SL ACC 2, Empire PLA
Still needed: Business Law CLEP, Principles of Finance DSST, and one more business course to fulfill general management requirements in case TESC doesn't like my PLA: SL Cost accounting? PennFoster Marketing?
Probably too much information :willynilly:

How did Saylor corporate communications transfer? Where did they place the course?
If under area of study you already have/expect to have more than 12 UL credits, my first choice would be the Public Relations & Thought Practices TECEP (COM210). Second - Advertising or Marketing Communications TECEP. Third - SL Managerial Accounting/Cost Accounting or Financial Accounting/Intermediate Accounting I.
In my opinion, SL has too much unnecessary busy work. Ridiculous amount of quizzes/exams. My preference is a 100-120 question all inclusive test. I liked PF because their course design is usually 2-5 short open book quizzes followed by the final exam (or written assignments).
It all boils down to your own personal preference! Good luck!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit to add: I just noticed you don't really have time for a TECEP, you've already missed the registration date. Not sure if PF marketing research has a proctored final exam. Try search. You could do intermediate accounting I through PF (the final is not proctored), but you would still have to wait for the book to be shipped. So yes, because of time constraint, SL would probably be best. Maybe take a look at both SL courses to see which one has less work?
