Penn Foster Computer Applications and other courses
#1
Good morning!!

Does anyone know how Penn Foster's Computer Applications course transfers over to TESC? AND more importantly does it require a proctored exam?

I'm thinking of taking some more Computer classes and think PF might be the way to go. Any thoughts?

I also thought at one point in time on this forum there was a master (maybe outdated by now but still ok) a list of how things transferred from everywhere to TESC.

Thanks for the info on PF, I haven't taken any class from them yet so any info would be appreciated.

PS Still waiting on TESC to up date evaluation!! grrr

yes that was the list! thanks!

I thought it had PF on there but oh well this helps me alot.

Now to just find out about proctored exams with PF....Their website just states some classes require and to check the syllabus but I havent been able to look at one unless I sign up.

You have to be very careful with those Penn Foster courses.

I know for a fact that Penn Foster's Introduction to Programming WILL transfer over. Get TESC to plan it on your degree first just in case those. Just send an email to academic advising and if they give you any problems, PM me and ill send you my email trails for proof.

Make sure they are currently ACE-approved. The last time I checked, only 2 or 3 computer courses at Penn Foster were currently approved. Intro the Programming and Intro to Computer Programming (only 2 credits) are usually the ones that are current. If computer applications is current, then it'll probably be transcribed as a LL CAP course. There is no document showing how Penn Foster courses will be transcribed. You'll just have to use the PLA database. That Degree Planners document is still outdated.

Yes I just checked this morning on ACE's website and Computer Applications is on there "Computer Applications (CSC104) Credit Recommendation: In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in computer information systems or information technology"

Just don't know where it would fall on TESC or if proctored.

According to ACE it doesn't say its a proctored exam and I looked at other classes and there are ones that do say proctored.

I'll keep researching.

I just emailed TESC to see if they will tell me how it will transcribe over. I asked about two of the Penn Foster courses in computers.

I sent the details right off the ACE recommendation list webiste, so hopefully they will have an answer to me soon. But I'm not holding my breath. Once they respond I will let everyone know.

I'm thinking if they work for me then I will email PF and find out if its proctored.

Here is the response from TESC advisor:

Quote: Hello. Penn Foster's Computer Applications (CSC104) will transcribe to CAP-101 Microcomputer Software and Essential Computer Skills (CSC108) will transcribe to CIS-107 Computer Concepts and Applications. Neither will duplicate your prior credits.

This is an alternate cheaper way to get LL credit I just need to find out if these classes have proctored exams. Does anyone know if they are?
