TESU CIS area of study
#1
Having looked around this forum for the past few months, I'm motivated to finally complete my degree. Hopefully you guys can help me out with my area of study for the cis degree at TESU. I hoped to take Intro to Programming at Penn Foster but it looks like the course is losing its ACE credit next month. What are some other quick, inexpensive options for the programming course and the other aos requirements? I would prefer not to take any of the CSU exams. I've reached out to TESU and they will not accept the TEEX courses.

Also, if I choose to have a second concentration can I use any of the same courses for both area of studies?

If you have 2 BSBA concentrations, you cannot have overlapping courses in the AOS. None of them overlap anyway, I don't think. Like Accounting and Marketing - obviously none of the AOS courses are going to be the same. And you only have 6 courses.

For the CIS concentration at TESU, I show the following:

Info Systems Analysis & Design - nowhere else to take this as a test-out except CSU-Global
Intro to Programming - PF - expires 2/28/17, so I would sign up and take it immediately. You can finish by then if you hurry up.
- SL used to have a course, but it expired 9/30/16. JavaOnline had a course, but it looks like they went out of business.
- CSU-Global has a Basic Programming (Java) course available

For electives in the AOS, I have the following (but some could be wrong, others on here can help with this):
- Computer Concepts & Applications TECEP
- Network Technology TECEP
- Management Info Systems DSST or Davar Academy or Ed4Credit.com
- Cloud Computing & Big Data CSU-Global
- Intermediate Networking CSU-Global

I would get all of these pre-approved before I did them just to make sure they will count.

AMU/APU has an into to programming course but it's on the high side. I didn't hear about PF losing its ace accreditation for the programming class, was it posted on here? I was planning to take it, but will have to look elsewhere it appears. There are always programming classes at local community colleges I would assume.

Thanks for all of the options! In regard to the Penn Foster programming course, I have a lot on my plate right now with college courses and study.com so I wouldn't feel comfortable starting anything new this month. If I enroll in the course at the beginning of Feb could I complete it by Feb 28th?

I've read that the Cybersecurity DSST is pretty difficult. Have any of you attempted it?

It totally depends on what your experience is - my husband took it cold, without even looking at the test guide, and passed (I just told him to go and take it one afternoon while he was going to be near SDSU, along with the MIS exam which he also passed). But he works in IT (virtualization) and has (or had) MANY different certs. So I knew it would be easy for him.

Your personal experience will be totally different, so there's not a good way for someone else to tell you how hard or easy it will be for YOU to pass. Not only is it based on what you know, but also how good of a test-taker you are.
