Passed Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union

Hey peoples. I have been looking at the forums here for quite a while and have found them most helpful. Thought I would return the favor for any of you taking Rise and Fall of the USSR (DSST).

I used IC and Wikipedia mainly. I had another textbook called The First Socialist Society (Don't remember the author's name). I didn't like the textbook that much because it listed events in categories more than it did in chronological order. IC and Wikipedia were very sufficient for this test.

Pay close attention to names in the flashcards on IC. I just took this testtwo days ago, and the one I took seemed to focus a lot on WWII. There were VERY few questions that had to deal with pre-revolutionary history.

What specificially in wikipedia did you study. There is a ton of info on specific WWII battles and such there. Also, how long did you study for. I am trying to pace myself for this test. I would like to take it in 2 weeks.

Hey Kydsnipe.

I studied mainly the bios on all the main leaders: Lenin, Stalin, Bhreznov, Gorbachev, etc. Definitley look at all the "presidents". I also read the article they had on the soviet union. On world war 2, I just read whatever they had as a part of the Soviet Union Article. However, I did look at one of the battles that was mentioned on IC, I can't remember which one it was. Know the difference between the battle of stalingrad and leningrad. If you read all the bios, that should have you pretty well set and give you a better context for what is happening when you read the soviet union article. Then I would suggest reading whatever you don't know much about. I read the article on the Red October Revolution because that was what I knew the least about. Also read the article about Chernybol.

I studied one week for this test. I would spend most of the morning and part of the afternoon on IC, then read wikipedia articles for the rest of the afternoon, and then an hour or two in the evening. Instacert was a huge help to me because it gave me a timline of what was happening and then helped me get important terms down that were prevelant on the test. Then reading wikipedia articles helped kinda settle it in. I passed with a 58. Not the best score, but hey, it's a pass. :-)

So yeah, you can definitely do it in two weeks. That is the amount of time we spend on each CLEP and DANTES at Verity, so I can sympathize.
