Passed MIS and a Question

Devilry Wrote:If I have read correctly on here... is it true that on transcripts if you transfered CLEP credit to Excelsior.. and graduated .. it shows as "P" and not a letter grade?

That is true. CLEPs are purely P/F and there are no letter grades awarded. On the older version of the test (maybe 4+ years ago) they had a different scaled grading system and EC DID award grades but now they say they can not determine where the cutoff for each garde level would be so you either pass with a 50 or higher or you fail.

DSSTs however do earn you letter grades and count towards your GPA. The scored needed for each grade is different for each test and is in the EC Guide to Credit by Examination.

I'm halfway there! (Whoa oh, living on a prayer)
21 transfered credits
6 more from AP English (4)
EC: Info Lit (P in 2 hours)
Clep: Educational Psych (69) Management (70) American Gov (53) A&I Lit (74) Algebra (52) Marketing (72)
DSST: Intro Comp (68) MIS (67) Here's Health (66) Supervision (60)

barcotta Wrote:My guess would be additional study. Instead of going through "but maybe three sections of the flashcards," why don't you try learning all of the flashcards well, taking the three Peterson's tests and brushing up on the areas where you need additional study and THEN taking a test.

You misunderstood me. For this exam I did very little study. For the other 6 exams I have passed a signifigant amount of effort was put into preparing for the test. So yes I have tried "learning all of the flashcard". My college only accepts a total of 30 credits from DSST and or CLEP tests. No grade is given for either, so passing is passing. I was just curiious about others opinions on the higher scores.
If your score is to high then you studied to much!

Passed:
- Intro to World Religions
- Principles of Management
- Management Information Systems
- Principles of Marketing
- Intro to Business Law
- Here's to Your Health
- Accounting (6 credit version)
- Principles of Macroeconomics
- Principles of Microeconomics

Finally Done!!!!!!!!

I passed the CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications on Tuesday with a 69. I've been in IS for about 12+ years plus I was building my own computers at age 10. I'll be able to tell my true test-taking ability after I take my next test, American Government. I took the Peterson pretest and got 24 out of 25.

I think what helped me the most with this test was understanding how to take tests. I took the SAT a couple of years ago and used the College Board's book as a guide. Since the CLEP questions are written by the College Board (the same people that create the SAT) then you are pretty much getting interchangeable advice.

If you want to get higher scores, read the SAT preparation book. I am sure that is what helped me. When you see 5 answers and you can automatically throw out 2 or 3 because you KNOW they cannot be correct it helps a lot. The College Board SAT test-prep taught me how.
