Pass is a pass
#1
And I am a living testament to that.

CLEP Biology - 50

CLEP Natural Sciences - 50 (No studying after completing Biology)

Intro to Computing DSST - 443 (Pass)

Intro to Business - 420 (Pass)

And this is all within the last 2 weeks, the only one I studied for was Biology, but my study is limited since I just finished up a full load during the summer semester, it has been hectic but all I can say is someone is watching out for me. Last year I CLEP'd Algebra with a 50 as well no studying.

Now let me say I am not an advocate of cold testing, I do a lot of reading/research and I did fail Bio and Business Law last year after intensive study, I think I psych myself out by overstudying rather than understanding the subjects and going in with an eased mind.

Next on the list -
Analyzing and Intepreting Literature CLEP
Information Systems CLEP
Principles of Supervision DSST
Personal Finance DSST
Principles of Marketing CLEP

Other CLEPS I did study for and passed -

Principles of Management
Intro to Sociology

Yes, and no. Yes, you passed, but many schools that I have looked at will not recognize scores below a certain level. Some want 55, and a few I have looked at want a minimum of 60.

You should be proud of your accomplishments, but some schools will not recognize the scores for credit.

Hehe, I've had a few like that myself. What possessed me to take Biology cold I'll never know. Seriously.. who does that? Somehow I scraped by and did most of my studying after the fact. I think I spent more time trying to figure out how I passed then I did trying to pass in the first place.

All of those scores are accepted by Excelsior, so I'd be thrilled with all of them.

Congrats! Might I recommend studying a bit in the future though? Wink

Eh, while the 50 = 80 paradox is a beautiful thing I prefer to only test out if I'm scoring 70+ percent on the practice tests. Life on the edge isn't my thing these days.

Only reason why I am cold testing is because I am in the Air Force Reserves but I am currently on active orders, so for lunch I have the opportunity to drive 2 blocks, test for FREE and go back to work. Its very convenient and I am only here for 3 months so I am trying to take advantage.

I do go to excelsior and they accept all of my scores, I realistically didnt expect to pass half of these tests. Add Personal Finance to the list now as well.

I have to say, I think the question of whether or not a pass is a pass depends on your intent.

For those who are going to Excelsior or TESC, and don't plan on matriculating to grad school, a pass is probably a pass. Most employers would never dream of asking to see your transcript, and even if they did, they wouldn't inquire further into pass/fail courses.

Grad school, on the other hand, is a different matter. I got a 68 on Western Civ II after assuming that most of the questions would be on the Napoleonic wars, and I will probably re-take that one in six months. I want to be able to show a grad school a transcript that shows perfect and near-perfect scores to demonstrate that I would have received an "A" in those classes had I taken them.

Well, from what I've seen, 68 is well above an "A." The highest "A" minimum that I've seen for DSSTs is 58 or 60.

There is nothing shameful about your 68. You creamed that test. If a grad school can't see that...then they probably don't understand scaled scoring very well (which is unlikely since most grad schools like to see a GRE score...which is scaled).

Keep up the amazing work,
R.

HedyBrown,

Just saw you were pursuing a BA in Irish Studies. Very interesting. What is the story about this and your future plans.

What about CLEP's? Does anyone know what the scaled score equivalent of an "A" is?

And HendyBrown, all I can say is "Wow". You've got to have some of the highest CLEP scores I've ever seen. Smile
