PASSED College Math CLEP! Woo hoo!
#1
Just got home from taking the college mathematics exam. I was so scared of this test b/c I haven't done math since high school (12 years ago) but I got a 62! What a relief. Smile

Congratulations! I am scared to take it as well. I haven't taken Math in 14yrs and I am not good at it to begin with. How long did you study before taking the exam?

I was in the same position, and way over-stressed and over-studied for this. Thankfully though, because I realized almost immediately the actual test I was taking was a complete joke since I had over-prepared.

Good resources: Peterson's CLEP guide, to let you know *what* to study. Then go to Khan Academy or PatrickJMT to really learn the material.

BTW this book is *far far harder* than the test I took. I took the paper test, maybe its different from the computer test, but since I was still learning the material it was ridiculously difficult compared to what I actually tested on.

FYI make sure you really know functions, sets, combinations, permutations, logic, and probability. Especially probability.

When you feel ready to take the test, buy the Official CLEP Study Guide, about $15 or less at Amazon. It has examples of ALL the CLEP tests, and they are dead-on accurate for each of the tests I took. They aren't the actual questions, but it's the exact same types of questions and difficulty level you will face. I wouldn't take this until you are ready or near-ready, since re-taking a practice test isn't really a good test because you know what is coming.

I studied for this over a span of about 2 months...however...I just had a baby two months ago so as you can imagine - I wasn't able to study very much. (I have three other kids too) I kind of kicked into gear about a week before and got some good study hours in.

I started off studying IC flashcards and I think it helped familiarize me with the content...but, in hindsight I think I would have been fine using the other materials and not bothering with the flashcards.

Khan academy videos were EXCELLENT. Definitely watch his videos on Permutations and Probability

I also used COMEX Review for the College Math CLEP. This was AMAZINGLY helpful - each chapter goes over a different concept and explains it very well. Anything that wasn't clear in this book I went to Khan academy and watched a video to clarify.

The other book I used was Cracking the CLEP - Princeton Review.

Make sure you understand Probabilities, Permutations, FUNCTIONS!!!, Graphs, and Inequalities.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck!
