Other Resources??

Ok, I've been puttering around on the forums for a couple months now, looking around, commenting once in while, but never paying tons of attention. It just finally hit me that there might be other ways to get college credits besides CLEP. I've heard of things like straightliner, DSST, ALEKs and um, I think some others, but I'm not sure what they are and if they actually equal college credits or what the story is.

All this to say, is there a website out there or even a thread in the forum that would kind of break them down into their components and their value for a college student?? or maybe somebody real knowledgeable could give a simple run down on these options??

I'm just embarking into my college journey and would like to do it debt free. I think I'll have to have a fair amount of ingenuity and maybe try cutting a few corners (like CLEP), but I going to try to make it work. I would just like to know if there are more resources that can help me on my way.

You have plenty of resources, just do a search for each of those.

To really see what "other" available options are out there, check out

ACE Evaulated Organizations

They list how each credit is scored, and what the recommended level/area of study each course will be credit for.

Straighterline will show how each of their courses can transfer to each of their Partner schools.

DSST - GetCollegeCredit lists all the DSST exams available.

However, depending on which college you want to go to, you'll need to see IF they accept the courses, and WHERE they will fall in your degree plan.

If it is to Excelsior, like me, there is an awesome PDF that EC has regarding where they apply all Credit by Exam's. Browse around those sites, but of course, keep asking the questions!

FEMA is another option for credits(electives), some colleges require that you convert them to credits through some place like Frederick community college.

FYI TESC accepts up to 32 FEMA courses (which are FREE online courses!) for NO CHARGE. I think they may accept fewer depending on the particular degree program.
