Online Masters with no proctored examinations?
#1
Hi guys! I am looking to pursue an MBA in the summer. I want to find a school preferably non-profit. However if it is for-profit, I don't mind that as well. My new job might have me move around a lot and I am afraid I won't have time to find a proctor if I have to take an examination. I was thinking of Liberty.. however the heavy stigma considering the whole "conservative christian school" is kind of pursing me away from Liberty. I am Catholic, but I love Liberty's format. I just dislike all the negative people who bash on Liberty's education because Liberty implements a lot of religious information in the courses, which I don't mind at all. Of course everyone's opinion might differ, which I perfectly accept! Or the employers who dislike Liberty due to that. Like I said, I still have Liberty on top of my list. Besides Liberty, I am looking for it to be online (obviously, heh) Master degree program, preferably a MBA. Tution doesn't matter at this point and if it's an all online university doesn't either, I am just looking right now. But all options are welcomed! Can anyone help a brother out?

Thanks!

Liberty University is certainly better than any for-profit. When looking long-term, I just think Liberty University is the safer bet. I don't think they'll have any accreditation issues like Ashford and UoP. They also seem to be financially stable unlike the non-profit Mountain State University which lost its accreditation and shut down. I even considered Liberty even though its founder had a racist past and continuously made ridiculous comments throughout his life. I thought you were seriously considering WGU.

Hey Sanantone! Yes, I was considering WGU. I love the price WGU offers as well, but the proctor examinations have me iffy. I will be working very odd hours and they have me jumping from location to location at my new job. I believe it's just temporary, but for now I want to be sure that I choose a school with no proctored examinations. If anything, I can transfer from college to college once I am settled at a location so I can start taking proctor examinations.

I didn't know the WGU MBA program had proctored exams. I thought it was all writing assignments.

There are no proctored exams in the WGU MBA....just a lot of writing....so much writing! Smile

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

That's what I thought because I didn't see anything about objective assessments when reading the information on the program. I saw nothing but performance assessments which I knew to be papers or projects. Now, I know at least one of their IT graduate programs requires proctored exams for certifications.

Oh really? I did not know that, I must of heard wrong or read wrong information somewhere. I think WGU it is! I might actually apply for a course next couple of weeks. I do know this, if it's WGU, I won't be able to transfer out since they aren't regular credit, they go by competency units. Unless any other schools accept competency units but very unlikely. But like I said, it will be something I have to strongly think about the next couple of weeks. I will still monitor this thread to see if anyone else inputs another school. I will consider them all.

My goal is maybe finish a WGU MBA and apply for a graduate certificate at a local state university. Possibly do my PhD later down the road, as of now I need to get my feet wet and get a Masters first. Or at least begin graduate school. Writing is not my best expertise, but I will get used to it. I always excelled in math or science, writing not so so. I will get used to it since I know graduate school is LOTS of writing, lol!

If you're considering WGU, you'd better start and finish there. Maybe the credits won't transfer out, but WGU definitely does not accept any transfer credits in. Since you can't pay for courses at WGU, you'll be locked in for a full 6-month term. You might as well try to finish the whole program or at least half in that 6 months.

Oh that's right, I can't sign up for an individual course it goes per 6 month terms... Thanks for the clarification! You're right, if I can finish it in 6 months that would save me time and money, but honestly, I don't know if I would be able to pull it off... Hmmm
