One- or two-credit "courses"?
#1
Due to some 4-credit courses with labs that transferred in, I only need one credit to finish my TESC General Ed. Electives category. TESC does not offer any partial-credit courses, and will not give suggestions on courses offered elsewhere but will confirm whether or not something will fulfill a requirement if I ask a specific question. (They're helpful in all other areas, and I understand they're in business to make money; pointing business elsewhere does not put money in their pockets. I definitely understand, I just need a suggestion on what might qualify so I can ask if it'll fill in.)

I could have sworn I've seen others' evaluations that have 1 or 2 credit course entries, but my forum search skills are failing me and I cannot see what those courses were. Does anyone have suggestions of a 1 or 2 credit course I could take somewhere and transfer in? It'll save me a full 3-credit course, time, and $, and you'll have my eternal gratitude. Smile

I don't know of any off the top of my head that would fulfill general ed requirements. FEMA's would not work for this purpose.

Why don't you just pick a CLEP or DSST that looks interesting to you, make sure it fits in under general ed, and then study for it? You would end up with an extra credit, but it would still be significantly quicker and cheaper than taking an actual class. The TESC guide to credits that I've attached should help along with using the TESC website to determine which categories fall under general ed. Thomas Edison State College | General Education Electives shows that they consider anything under Humanities, Natural Science/Mathematics and Social Sciences to be general ed.

Maybe one of the NFA classes could work?

If you like English Literature and writing, TESC has a one credit course about Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I have heard that it is easy (again, if you like writing and literature, although there should not be too much writing). From what I know, it is the only TESC course that is less than 3 credits. It is another option and would have a TESC grade.

Otherwise, just take an easy CLEP in any GE subject you like.

Have you looked at taking an online course from your state community college? I know that in California, Foothill and De Anza College both offer some 1-2 credit courses, albeit they are on a quarter system so you can take several or look around.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I do not mind writing, and since I'm on comprehensive tuition (financial aid), I'll definitely look into the Jane Austen course at TESC - no extra out of pocket expense.

I really appreciate the pointers, everyone!

I can't imagine where a 1 credit class is cheaper, faster, or less work than a 3 credit clep. I'd pick a test and call it done.

I do not test well. I've taken a few CLEPs and have another scheduled for next week, but I much...MUCH...prefer a course where I can base more of my pass success on coursework. It may be slower, but it's a lot less stress and frustration for me. It's a personal quirk, but it's mine, and I'll own it. Smile As for expense, I've already paid the Comprehensive tuition. I might as well use it to its full advantage, rather than pay out of pocket for an exam.

I understand, and actually, for that class you might be able to get the reading from your local library which would be free!
