SL Physics I description implies that you need calculus. With the low pass rate reported on SL, I assume that calculus is a big problem. Could you provide info on what math background you really need. Could someone make it with just Pre-Calculus? How about just College Algebra? Thanks

Hmmm, interesting question. You might be able to make it with just Precal. Certainly not with just College Algebra. In either case, though, you'd have to learn some calculus concepts such as derivation and the whole idea of viewing a curve as being composed of infinitely small chunks. I think this is more for Physics I, though. You'd definitely be okay with Precal for Physics II.

Could you succeed at Physics II without first taking Physics I? My student only has a one course Physics req. at TESC. Know of any other options?

You might be able to. Physics covers a lot of topics, some of which are somewhat unrelated (like motion and heat). Because of this, Physics II doesn't necessarily build a lot on Physics I. Check out the course syllabi on SL's website. As for other options, there's community colleges and the Physics Uexcel.

Odd. I can't find it either. ACE says they're approved for Physics II (w and w/o lab) until 9/30/15, so it can't be an issue with accreditation.
