No second bachelors for me

I have a whole bunch of math and science classes done already which fill out ninety percent of my requirements. I think all of those would be deemed unacceptable due to the date I got those credits. They aren't even being used by bsba which seems unfair.

Unfortunately this is why it pays to research first...there are so many threads on this subject. Also having access to advisors before getting this deep into the program makes sense. Getting info from the board is good, but since the requirements change it makes sense to be in touch with the school. (I actually needed 42 credits for my second degree because you still need ALL the required courses. So I completed 18 prior to conferral and the 24 new after.)

Another option you might ask about is graduating with BOTH degrees at the same time (NOT a dual but two separate degrees). The policy is 24credits after conferral. Well if there is no conferral and you have the credits to fufill both the BSBA and BA you should be able to just graduate with both on the same conferral date. It would take a bit longer to complete both but if you can hold out why not. But unless you truly needed the second (ex multiple career path, teaching, ...) why bother. You are already set to go into your Masters program.

Set up an appointment with an advisor to discuss. Also go on to the new student website and print out both degree evaluations this way you have the required classes for both programs.

If they are not being used in your BSBA, I'd think that you have a good shot at using them in a BA Nat Sci/Math. IIRC, your oldest credits are from ca. 1994, so I would think that unless they are in Genetics, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology, they wouldn't be considered antiquated.

Bricabrac I have already done most of what you suggest. My eval for liberal studies came back fully complete, math and nat sci I only require two courses and I'm done. I should just call them to be sure.

I want a math degree because I have a lot of nontrivial math and science under my belt I would like to leverage. Maybe when I'm old some day I could teach math or science at school. It also feels better to me since I am a technical person. Used to make fun of business majors in school

I really empathise with your position as a bachelor of art/science in maths is pretty much the epitome of a lot of people's idea of what academic study is.

TESC don't do a BA or BS in maths*, though. It's a BA in Natural Science/Mathematics. You know this, we know this. It's possible to achieve a BA in Natural Science/Mathematics without doing any upper level maths at all. It's possible to be awarded a BA in Natural Science/Mathematics having only taken Beginning Algebra to fulfil the general education requirements. The same general education requirements that apply to most programmes.

I agree it's not just a vanity thing, though; I'm seeking a named major because I figure it looks better on a CV than a liberal arts major. But then again, liberal arts majors on average are higher earners than my named major, so clearly, it is partly a vanity thing. That and taking advantage of the testing options available.

If you are filling upper level options with maths credit, brilliant. But I would recommend not misrepresenting or tricking yourself into the belief that the BA in Natural Science/Mathematics is a maths degree. Again, you already know this. Also, that a business major is probably the best general CV 'tick in the box'

The only reason I bring this up is that, yeah, a maths degree is something I have a massive amount of respect for. In your first post you made it very clear that, yes, it is indeed a BA in Natural Science/Mathematics; maybe too clear Subsequent posts have tended to the maths-centric perspective. I know you want to leverage your maths credit, but if it ain't a major in maths it ain't that... yet?

Ok, this is an interesting situation. You only need org behavior to complete your BSBA and two courses for the BA. I would call the registrars office and check on two bachelors on the same date. I just checked the catalog and it only references an associates and bachelors awarded on the same date. "Students who desire both a Thomas Edison State College associate degree and a Thomas Edison State College baccalaureate degree may have both degrees awarded together in the same graduation cycle" (Undergraduate Academic Policies - Thomas Edison State College - acalog ACMSâ„¢).

Depending on what they say about two bachelors, you might also consider the Mathematics, ASNSM and your BSBA CIS on the same conferral date? You obviously have the associates credits already completed. This way you would have a specific math credential and can still begin your masters on schedule.

No one is prevented from including UL Math in the BA in Nat Sci & Math- you could have 18 UL Math credits in the Area of Study if you wanted to- courses like Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Number Theory and Topology.

I was considering both options, the nat sci/math and the full math degree.
I need linear algebra with calc and a couple other math classes to finish a math degree. I already have two upper level math classes on my transcript so I'd just have to grab a couple more. I know its not the same degree, just as nat sci/math is not a chemistry degree.

I have already started the search for distance learning math classes and ordered linear algebra for dummies.

I am going to get a second bachelors in something. I don't care what it is. I want to get the most out of my 2800 dollar enrollment fee. So if I need to take teceps and dsst and clep tests that's fine. You'll be seeing me around for a little while longer.
