Enrolling at TESC
#1
My son has been accepted into TESC at the age of 17. He has 87 credits we are going to transfer in, but he is planning to test out of another 30 so he can transfer in and only take the Capstone, hopefully. We want to enroll him before July 1st. Does he have to enroll in a class before July 1st, or can he just enroll in the college? I'm not positive he will have all 117 hours by June when we want to go ahead and enroll him (not wait til the last day). If he has to have all 117 hours so we can enroll him in the capstone in June, then we have got to get a move on....fast!

Thank you!

You can just enroll in June - you do not have to enroll in a class right away.

I think I just found the answer to my own question on their website - Thomas Edison State College: You can enroll anytime using our online enrollment form and once enrolled, you can access all student services . It looks like he will be enrolled as soon as I pay the enrollment fee. Is it immediate? So if I call and enroll him on June 30th, he's enrolled? I was thinking enrollment was a process and could take a couple weeks, so I needed to enroll in early June just to make sure they approved the enrollment before July 1. Even though I think I understand, I would appreciate verification from someone who has already done this. WE just do not want to miss the July 1st date. Thank you!

I enrolled on 6/28 last year to avoid the new capstone requirement. You might want to enroll on 6/27 this year so that you have one business day to contact them should you have any issues. I personally would not wait until 6/30 since it is a Sunday and you could not contact anyone if you have any questions or issues with the online system.

You have to at least be applied and accepted before July 1 to avoid all those new reqs...at least, I'm applied and I was told that as long as I enroll before my 6 months is up, I'll be able to avoid them.

Thank you for the replies. That reassures us! So if I enroll him in June, we can still take his FEMA electives in July, I assume? I think he will have everything except those credits. I was going to let the college evaluate him and tell us which FEMAs they are accepting right now. Does that sound like a good plan?

Here is the TESC list of FEMAs they are currently accepting. You can knock them out now.

17 and that close to a degree? Evil little Laterbloomer hates him. The Laterbloomer who is trying to grow and be a better person is amazed and thrilled for both of you. What degree does he hope to achieve? Also, I second knocking the FEMA courses out now. Some of them are quite interesting, and may supplement future courses he is taking.
