The answers are usually multiple choice and sometimes fill in the blank by multiple choice.

On CLEPs you can go back and check your answers with in a section. They are like paper and pencil tests, if you have time left you can review that section. By section I mean that sometimes the CLEPs have 2 sections, eg. questions then essay, but most of the time they have 1.

We'll start with using the flashcards...

You are not expected to know the answers the first time through. Even if you know what the answer should be, you may pick one word but the card wanted a synonym. (this drives me batty!) It's okay. Run through the cards, pay attention to the spelling of unfamiliar names/cities/whatever, then go through the cards again.

I do a lot of backtracking with flashcards. On a 40-card set, I'll run through cards 1 through 10, filling in what I can and reading all the cards carefully. Then I'll jump back to card 1 and try filling them in again. Repeat until perfect! Then I'll do this again with the next 10 cards, repeat until perfect, then jump back to the first and run through the first 20. Then I'll do the same with the remaining cards. With that much repetition, you will learn how to spell Ngo Dinh Diem, Chickamauga, and Vesenkha.

However, you don't need to be able to spell these names to take a CLEP/DSST successfully. The point is to recognize them and know who this person is or which generals fought at this battle or what this is. (corrupt anti-Communist leader of south Vietnam, Bragg vs Rosecrans, and the institute which managed the nationalized industries of Bolshevik Russia)

The actual exams are multiple-choice. And yes, once you've marked your answers, you can review your choices. Standard suggested procedure is to make one run through the test questions, answering everything you know for certain. Then make a second run and reason out the answers you aren't sure of. Finally, make educated guesses (or wild guesses) for the remaining questions.

By resources, what do you mean? Study resources, or practice tests? In either case, go to the Specific Exam Feedback section and look for the thread on the test for which you're studying. There's a wealth of valuable information there!
