Newbie needs help!

Veromiami Wrote:I need some help......I'm work as a paraprofessional at a elementary school, In my school district to become a foreign language teacher, you only need a bachelor and then pass the state test for the language that you are planning to teach. I have been reading here about the route to take but, is a little bit overwhelming. Please help me out. I was thinking Charter Oaks State or what do you think? I'm really bad in Math!! Advice on what bachelor to pick and where to get the classes from?? Thank you in advance. I really need this my financial situation is very bad right now, I need to better my life

I have Spanish clep
I have over 45 FEMA IS done
! Smile

You have Spanish and FEMA already started! That's great!
I don't know the specifics of your state's licensure requirements, but make sure you find out from your state's website- there will be educational requirements there. You don't want to trust one of us and find out we missed something.

If you have solid Spanish fluency, I think there are more credits in Spanish you can get for Charter Oak. I don't know how they evaluate them though (combo of upper and lower credits?) but there are lots of foreign language threads here, you should search and see if they might work for you. (EDIT to add: I hadn't read ahead, but I see you've got advice here- I'm thinking if you can get upper level credit EVEN IF the lower level duplicates, that it will be worth the cost)

Congratulations on deciding to advance your career. My longest friend is an aid in a 3rd/4th grade special ed class. She's done that for over 15 years now, and she's always feared returning to school to become the teacher. Good for you! Your salary, benefits, and job security will be so much better.

EDIT to also add: I love Kay's suggestion about seeing if you can get a pay bump with the AA first. I agree with Dfrecore about not bothering with it if it doesn't boost you up in some way.
