I applied two weeks ago for a virtual assistant (graphic design) position for a high end real estate marketing & brokerage company. I interviewed this week and 45mins after walking out of the interview I had an offer in my e-mail saying they wanted to hire me, and that I was exactly what they were looking for. It's 5-10 hours a week of 1099 work, but something is better than nothing. I'll also be able to do more photography, and they'll expand on my videography experience. I'm still working my other 10hr a week job, so with the two I'll be up to 15-20hrs a week. That's a big deal though since I went so long unemployed. In addition the other place I am working for may be expanding my hours soon, but into a position working directly with the substance abuse clients. I also have three meetings lined up in the next three weeks for organizations that help survivors of trafficking. The first one is to join the state's advisory task force against trafficking! The second is for a new home opening to house survivors, where I am going to see if I could volunteer and then maybe get a staff position. The third is for an organization that helps street based workers by providing them pepper-spray, emotional support, and connecting them up to services to help make their lives easier. I'm pretty excited about all of this, and maybe working part-time is good since I still need time to study.
I just wanted to share, because things just keep getting better after being cruddy for so long. There is also a small chance though that I may be relocating to the NW region of the country, due to my BF getting a job offer with a major pay increase. I'm glad I'm at TESC though, so I don't have to worry about switching schools!

Congratulations! Employment is like borrowing money. No one wants to give it to you if you need it. You're doing a good job of cobbling together jobs. As you're seeing, you're able to build up. It wouldn't surprise me to see you with a full-time job soon. Keep at it. It's there for you.

That's exactly how it feels, like it's being pieced together. I figure if nothing else maybe it would be time to start a home-based business doing design work, and then I'd be able to raise my rates back up to something reasonable too within a year or so.

I also want to add though, since people talk about whether going to a specific school matters, the owner of the business went to the first art school I attended. I think that was a major selling point to me getting the job.

You're doing a great job!
If I can throw a high school analogy in here, this is like how hard it was for me to get a girlfriend, then once you had one they came of the woodworks.
This will happen for you like Latebloomer said, next thing you know, you will have more than you can handle.
Cheers!

I think this literally just happened! My boss from the first job called me over the weekend saying they had one person quit, & another I think they fired. They also just hired a new Executive Director who knows more about billing the insurances for the certification I just got to work directly with clients. So the boss at the forst job wanted to know if I could help with sorting through client intakes, doing some other types of business contacts, & if I was ready to start working with the clients directly! So if all goes well, this may have me up to 25-30hrs a week.
