Hey All,
Just joined and am excited to start my degree plan and had a question.
What is the benefit to using sites like saylor, study and straightliner vs just a conventional online course? I understand that with CLEP and DSST you can just test out and get the credit but it seems like using the other sites you are still required to take quizzes, etc. Is it mainly for cost? Speed? Easier?
Appreciate the help!

Study and StraighterLine are cheaper than most traditional online courses through a college. Some people don't want their entire grade to be based on a single test like in clep. So if they do a class on study, they can do all those quizzes and pad their grade so they're more likely to pass even if they don't do so hot on the proctored final.

The main differences are cost and time. As far as CLEP / DSST versus other online courses, "test-out" options require a certain breadth of knowledge to be passed whereas more conventional types of courses (to include Study.com and Straighterline) test you incrementally until the end.

Are some pass vs fail instead of actual grades to be transferred?
Just trying to think strategically if I am better at a subject to go graded vs p/f.

Most all of the ACE providers and credit by exam tests are considered pass/fail at tesu.

So is the best strategy to take the test blind and hope for the best? Not sure if it makes sense to do a Study.com test if the grade does not matter.
How about for schools other than the big 3? Looking at Southern New Hampshire or Colorado tech as well.

The best strategy is to put the work into studying a subject to learn the material just like you would for a traditional college class. Otherwise what value does your "education" have?

To get that college degree check mark when employers are looking for a minimum education standard that is irrelevant to the job or irrelevant if the person can do a job

Regardless of how you feel about the importance/relevance of any learning you do along the way to earning a degree for improved job prospects, this is a public forum that is regularly viewed by people all around the world. Including people who run colleges, alternative credit providers, and potential employers. When people in those positions see people within a certain community having the attitude of taking a bunch of tests blind and get through a whole degree without learning much or caring about the learning outcomes that are supposed to come with the degree, then the degree itself loses credibility.
