New and need advise!!
#1
Hello All,

I wanted to ask for some advice. I have enrolled into UoP and 4 weeks into it, I definatley would like to make a change into one of the "BigThree". I have about 24 credits from the Juunior Colleges that I have attended prior.

I have loans, financial aid and dont know how to go abouts switching colleges. also when choosing between ECE and TESC. since TESC takes 35 credits tranferred from FEMA wouldnt that be the better choice to choose? those are a pretty easy 35 credits from what I read.

or is excelsior still less expensive?

also... should I CLEP & DANTES before I enroll? or should I just enroll and CLEP?

But I need to chose one that I can finish in 2 no later then 3 years. I would like to join the AF as a officer before the deadline cutt-off age.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Will2k

Will2k, first things first- pass your classes this semester. You've already paid for them and the books, I strongly suggest finishing this semester and doing your planning along at the same time.

Talk to TESC/EC financial aid office to get info on how to transfer with financial aid. Once upon a time, EC didn't participate in financial aid- that may have changed- you'll need to find out. TESC does for sure.

I'm a TESC student, so I can't say about EC, but TESC accepts FEMA credit. The amount they accept depends on what degree you are going for. I don't think you can bring over 35 simply because they are "Free electives" and I think you'll only need 28 (unless you have already used some up at junior college or UoP) Find out before doing the FEMA- it might be a wasted if you don't have an idea of what you need first.

Are you firm on your major or will anything do? Two very common paths here are business or liberal studies.

Request your transcripts from your junior college be sent for official evaluation to one(all) of your choices and see what they say.

I'd suggest waiting a bit on your CLEP/DSST until you know what you need and most importantly what you DON'T need.
Good Luck and welcome!!

Hello Cook,

Thank you for your fast response. Yah I plan on finishing this class but I do not want to start up the next class. I would rather join the one of the "Big Three". I wonder if the enrollment counselor's would know about what to do with my loans aswell!! but in any case I will call first thing Monday morning.

I was trying to do research on the "big three", it looks like ECE is the cheapest and fastest to receive a Bachelors.

I was just planning on getting a BS in business management.

I was trying to found out the cost, would you have a rough estimate of both colleges?

thanks,

The maximum number of FEMA courses that can be translated RAW into college credit at TESC is 25. Any additional credits need to be transferred from FCC. Before doing anything, always check with an advisor and make sure to get it in writing.

Here is the link I created for FEMA courses that translate to TESC credit (please note they are not just free electives)

Could you please explain what you mean by that statement? In other words,

I = Introduction
T = Theory
A = Applied
what exactly does this mean?

Are any of the credits able to count towards Gen Ed?

thanks!

You'll have to ask about that, I know there are programs where the courses apply directly to the major.

I kind of skimmed over what you wrote... but, based on what I read, I would say I'd make sure your college accepts the Clep or Dantes test that you want to take and see how it would tranfer before I waste the time or money on it.
Cindy Scholten

Clep :
Microeconomics 59
Managment 61
Marketing 56
Macroeconomics 62
Business Law 53

Princ of Supervision 60
Technical Writing 56

Yah it looks like I will contact a academic counselor at TESC, I believe I have to transfer to that school or my financial aid will get messed up because I cannot be out of school more then 29 days or something like that. Hopefully thats the same for my loan aswell. Hopefully I can do it before next class starts because I really want to get out of UoP.

Would you know if I take CLEP/DSST right now in the meantime I do not have to desginate a college right?!? I plan on taking "heres to your health", Drug&Abuse, intro to soc, intro to comp, etc... and maybe other ones in the meantime? This would not hurt me would it?
