Hello all helpful members, I recently got into CLEP testing and started studying for my first exam (psychology) and have signed up for instacert. While instacert does help with the flash cards, My question is am i doing the process right? i read in different posts between clep, dsst, and other exams? i dont understand the difference. I Would like the credits transfer for Excelsior and im taking courses that do transfer to that specific school. Im trying to get my degree in business. So, i just need some guidance to help me begin this journey. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all very much.

Are you doing what process right? All exams are different but most are multiple choice. Psychology is in my opinion one of the easier exams. Have you checked the specific exam feedback for that exam? also have you looked at the degreeforum wiki? Other than that we need more specifics to help.

hey and thank you for your reply. The process of just picking out an easier class and using IC to help me pass the exam. I didnt know what websites people used that had a better test result and what not. i have not looked at the specific exam feedback or degreeforum wiki. i will do that. basically, what im asking is, whats the difference between DSST, CLEP, AND Dante? should i take one or the other? thanks again for your help

I don't have as much experience as most people on the board but I can add my 2 cents. 1) Dantes and DSST are the same thing. 2) CLEP vs. DSST is a personal preference I think. I prefer DSST. 3) Now that you are on Instantcert - ALWAYS start with the specific exam feedback section and read everything in the thread. I think that will also help you decide on CLEP vs. DSST if that is an option. 4) I have really benefited from free-clep-prep.com as well. The info and practice tests are wonderful. Good luck!
Edited to add: Make sure your school accepts whichever you choose. That could be a deciding factor as well.

To clarify a little:
Most colleges take CLEP and it is in their catalog, all CLEP exams are multiple choice except the ones that say composition. Some people think these are the easiest exams. More here https://clep.collegeboard.org/exam
Some colleges take DSST/Dantes exams, these are just different names. At one time these exams were only open to the military now anyone can take them. Some say these are the easiet others think they are harder. These are also mosty multiple choice exams. You can find out more about them here DSST | Get College Credit
TECEP exams are the same type of exams they are produced by TESC but anyone can take them and some colleges will take them, some like these and again some think they are harder. Find more here

Uexel are again the same kind of multiple choice exams. These exams give a letter grade but some colleges just give pass/ fail credit. Most think these are the hardest. These used to be calles ECE exams More here Excelsior College | 1. Choose Your Exam
Each brand of exam cover some of the same and some different subject, you need to choose which ones best fit into your degree program needs. I hope this helps some.

Yes, most schools do accept CLEP. None of the brick and mortar schools I've checked accept TECEP exams. If the discussion is restricted to the online schools popular with people who frequent this forum, then probably most of this subset of schools accepts TECEPs. Once a school awards credit for an exam, if no grade is assigned to it, then it is like transfer credit. Credit by exam and transfer credit is usually considered to be C- level or better.
As a new student looking for guidance, what you read on this forum isn't official. Always exercise due diligence and consult your school of interest before committing your time and money. Even if someone at your school of interest tells you something verbally, you need an official written reference to validate what you are told. The school's general catalog is the official source of academic rules and regulations.

Also, many of the DSSTs exams can get you upper level credit, while the CLEPS cannot do so. If what you're trying to do is to decide between a CLEP or a DSST, and either one will meet your degree plan needs, I second reading the feedback. As I recall, CLEP has 5 multiple-choice answers, DSST has 4 choices. Some folks dislike the wording of the DSSTs, but I don't recall having an issue with the language of either one.

You're not transferring TECEPs; you're transferring credits from a regionally accredited school. The only issue one might run into is that a school might not accept pass/fail credits. Otherwise, credits earned by TECEP look no different from credits earned by TESC courses. TECEPs are in-house challenge exams.

Thank you all for your kind replies and i apologize for responding so late (vacation). I would like to transfer my credits to Excelsior and have a degree in business. Ive visited the clep website and looked up excelsior and have confirmed the clep tests they take. I will read the specific exam forum for each test i take.
