I have recently run into a problem with Excelsior about content overlap so I thought I would share. I am currently enrolled in CIT-111 Computer Hardware and Software at KCTCS. This course has a prerequisite of CIT-105 Introduction to Computers. Having taken the Information Systems CLEP, I was able to bypass the CIT-105 prerequisite. Unfortunately, my request to take CIT-111 was shot down because the adviser believes there is too much overlap with the CLEP. This course uses an A+ preparation textbook from Cengage and addresses the computer from a technician perspective while the CLEP addresses the computer from a user perspective.
I am waiting on a new review from the Liberal Arts department because I switched back to BSL from BST, but I will be addressing the issue once my new evaluation is complete. I plan to provide the syllabi for both courses and a description of the CLEP, along with a explanation of why I don't believe the content overlaps.
I will keep everyone posted on the outcome.
