Need your review
#1
Hi all,

While I may be great at test-taking, you've probably noticed that I'm super rusty with degree plans.   That being said, with your help, I have reviewed my DH's plan and have a few questions.

He has decided that it would make a difference to have something "business-y" so I've worked on the BALS with General Management concentration.      I now have all of his credits from CC and from CLEP/DSST.     I have attached the plan, with the courses highlighted in blue that he already has and the ones in yellow where we have questions.

I really appreciate some extra eyes on this before we move forward.

Thanks!!!!

Lowest math for the BALS - anything that is college-level or higher. I suggest CLEP College Math, Shmoop Finite Math, DSST Math for Liberal Arts, or Study.com's MAT97: Intro to Mathematical Reasoning or MAT102: College Math.

I think the Tech Writing course will now work in place of English Comp II, which would be AMAZING if true. Check on that!

Yes, Environment and Computer DSST's will work where you have them in Science.

Don't do the cornerstone. Being a study.com student will waive it for you.

The BALS with GM Concentration has very specific courses that you have to take:
Prin of Mgmt - Saylor, CLEP, Davar
Change Mgmt - Not sure yet, need to check Study.com's BUS304 or CSU-Global - get one preapproved before you even start the concentration
Negotiation & Conflict Mgmt - Study.com BUS319, TECEP
Org Theory - Study.com's BUS323
Industrial Psych - Study.com's PSY301
Managerial Comm - Saylor's BUS210, TECEP, Davar

What happens when you complete this degree is that you also earn an undergrad Cert in GM. So not a bad course of study, especially if you don't want to take a lot of the Business Core.

Perfect! Thanks for the tips! I really hope that technical writing will work Smile

I appreciate the other info too about the specific courses he'll need to take. I still think that your communications plan was better, but I think this will be more useful and therefore might motivate DH more..

FYI, Shmoop also offers a Principles of Management course now.

You should also be able to use the Shmoop "Professional Writing" course for this (comes in as ENG-306 Intermediate Technical & Professional Writing, same as Study.com's Advanced Technical Writing). There are some folks who've had trouble getting Technical Writing approved for their English Comp II requirement, but this is a recent change so it may only be for folks on the new catalogue?

I'm planning to take the Shmoop course myself once I manage to finish English Comp I with SL.

Just a correction: Shmoop's Professional Writing course MAY come in as ENG-306, I've only gotten 1 person who has said that, and it's not ACE-recommended as UL, so that could certainly change.  So you may want to get it preapproved.

Also, Study.com's ENGL305: Advanced Technical Writing comes in as ENG-201.

I've seen several reports of Professional Writing coming in as ENG-306. One just recently. I've seen two reports of it meeting Written Comp II.

As for Advanced Technical Writing from Study.com, is the ENG-201 recent? I have only seen it as ENG-306, but that may have been from before the beginning of the year when UL->LL downgrade happened.

Sadly, I don't think Technical Writing will come in as English Comp I or II, there was an update recently from this post.

I saw that too, but the technical writing meeting written comp is brand new in the current catalog, so I assumed it was because they were on an older catalog. Doubly so since someone else mentioned Tech Writing being slotted into Info Lit which I believe was also in the old catalogue.

Does Technical Writing meet the Info Lit requirement? (For some reason I am unable to upload the screenshot of the current catalog. Sorry. )

According to the TESU website, it does not meet the Information Literacy requirement but does meet the Written Communication requirement. I couldn't find a confirmation either way in the 2017/2018 Undergraduate PDF catalog, other than a confirmation that the Technical Writing DSST does meet it, but that expired in early 2017. However, from what I can tell this is a recent change. So students who enrolled and locked into an earlier catalog should theoretically still be able to use Technical Writing to satisfy Info Lit. Students in the current catalog should find it meets Written Communications instead.

It is my understanding that as of the latest catalog, in order to qualify as Info Lit, a course must include a research methodology of some kind. Though I don't necessarily follow that since it still includes some courses, like World Religions, which don't appear to meet that requirement.
