Need help studying CLEP?
#1
Hello everyone. Most of you have been very informative and helpful. Thank you. I have done enough fema tests and am now starting CLEP (got to start it sooner or later). Here is my question. Does anybody know if the social sciences and history exam is defunct. I do not see it listed with instantcert. Thats fine though. Has anybody taken it? Is it difficult? So far i have though REA study guide and the Cracking the CLEP study guide. Does anybody know of any other resources that may be helpful? One more question. is it worth 6 credits i go to tesc. Thank you every one. I really want to get started.

Hello Adrian.

I too will be going to TESC. I have taken the Social Sciences & History CLEP. I got a 60. You can see the tests that I have taken in my signature below.

They do not have Social Sciences & History CLEP for IC because the test is so broad. You just have to study for the tests individually, i.e:

-US History 1
-US History 2
-Western Civilization
-World History
-Economics
-Sociology
-Psychology
-Anthropology
-Government

If you read this list, you're probably saying to yourself..., "Daaammmnn!!!" I know...that's the same thing I said!!!(smile) But do not get discouraged. The test wasn't that bad.

As far as the difficulty goes...I would say it is average. What I would suggest you do is go online and take the Petersons Practice Tests for the Social Sciences & History CLEP. Then do the IC questions for at least the History portions. Also get a hold of the Barron's CLEP, Kaplan's CLEP, and CLEP Success. Preferably all three if you can. Try your public library first to get them for free if possible.

I suggested all three because what you need to help you is sample questions and answers. If you can get a hold of all three of the above test prep guides, you will have a plethora of sample questions. That helped me tremendously.

They also have trial tests too. Just remember that this test is extremely broad. I heard someone say once that CLEP should have just said that everything except for math, english, and science is on this exam!!!

If you can get at least 55% of the questions right on the Petersons practice test...you should be good to go.

Hope this info helps you.

P.S: At TESC, they do award 6 credits for this test. I don't know what you're majoring in, but I am majoring in Business Administration, and they will give 3 credits towards the Social Sciences category and put the other 3 in the General Education Electives category.

The reason being is because you need 9 credits for an ASBA. You are required (mandatory) to take Macro or Microeconomics which is 3 credits. And the other 6 credits must be in two subject areas. So since Social Sciences and History is 6 credits but only considered one subject, you need to take another Social Science CLEP. For example, I took the Introductory Sociology exam, (I would highly recommend this exam for your first one because it is relatively easy and IC and the Specific Exam Feedback section on here is all you need.)---to meet the other Social Science credit. So since Sociology CLEP is 3 credits I received 3 for that and 3 for Social Sciences & History, the other 3 credits will have to be either Macro or Micro, and the other remaining 3 credits from the Social Sciences & History CLEP will go towards the General Education Electives category.

I hope that made sense to you. Hope this info is helpful to you and good luck.
