You do not have to be military to take DSST. Here's the DSST site:
DSST - GetCollegeCredit.com
Here is the catalog:
https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_Coll...atalog.pdf
AS requirements: page 19 & 20
BS requirements: 26 & 27
I'm not much of an Excelsior expert, so hopefully someone else will step in with more recommendations. I'm pretty sure they do not accept the CLEP English Comp test, that is about all I know.
Good luck!!

Before you enroll, I would recommend taking a CLEP or DSST to see how you feel about it. Pick a topic that you feel most comfortable with or that interests you most. Study and take the test.
The reason why I suggest this is that some people here can go through the testing relatively quickly. If you're one of those people, you might be able to get a Bachelor's sooner than expected. If this is the case, you may not want to spend $$ on the associates.
Every situation is different. I am rushing and with the pace that I study and the credits I already have, I believe that I will finish my BS within a year of matriculation. This makes it much more cost efficient for me to not pay for an associates.
This is just a thought... I know that going staight to a Bachelors is NOT the best path for everyone, but it could be cheaper depending on your situation.
Sorry I can't help with the degree plan. I'm at COSC and DH is at TESC, so I could help out with those schools.

Hi nan62,
Here are two links to some posts by NAP on getting an AA or an AS from Excelsior. Hopefully this can help you get started. I know it can seem overwhelming at first, but keep pushing along and you will be able to get a plan going. Especially with all the wonderful people on this forum to help you. I know they really helped me get started on mine.
Good luck,

Since you mentioned DSST and asked for help, are you aware of the free Peterson's study guide for DSST exams?
Follow the instructions (complete with helpful screen captures) found here to access the free Peterson's site:
Free Practice Clep Tests!
Create a free account and selet DSST prep under College Prep Tools. On the DSST Prep page, click the link DSST: Official Test Preparation Guide. It is a 400 page guide.
Technical Writing is possibly the easiest DSST exam. Many people pass it without any preparation, but it never hurts to check a free study guide first. You can use the search feature to find out more about specific exams.
