A friend was told he hasn't fulfilled the nutrition prerequisite for nursing school. He's making an appeal that his more advanced nutrition course should be an acceptable substitute.
So, in case he isn't successful, how can he get credit for an intro to nutrition course suitable as a prerequisite for a BSN program? TESC has an exam for nutrition. There is a DSST exam for nutrition, but I don't know if nursing schools would accept it. And if it acceptable, he'd need to find a school that would post it to an official transcript. The absolute deadline is May 20. The nursing school must receive, process and accept the credit by May 20.

I took the TECEP exam, it's book specific but you can take it anytime. TESC allows non-enrolled to test, but I think it's more money.

Okay, but how much is the total cost of taking one test and enrolling in TESC to be able to order a transcript? I'm looking for an estimate of the total drive out cost.

Enrollment wouldn't be required. You would have to specifically ask TESC if you could use a credit bank, and then specifically ask the nursing school if that would be ok. The exam cost me about $250 I think.

I would take the DSST nutrition exam (which I know nothing about btw) right now if it were me... even if they don't end up accepting it, it was worth a shot while you pursue other means to fulfill the requirement. It's only about 100 bucks.
Plus taking it now will ensure the transcripts would be processed and everything by May 20th... about a month.

Quincy College in Massachusetts offers Nutrition online this summer. It is about $500 for a class, and you would need a proctor for the final. If your school doesn't accept the exams, this could be another option for your friend.

Thanks, that won't work with the May 20 deadline, but it is a good find for other, unrelated reasons.
Does anybody know of a school that awards credit for passing the DSST nutrition exam, one that could get a transcript delivered before May 20?

The DSST isn't a nutrition exam, it's a health exam. I'd confirm before attempting, because I'm sure the nursing program wants biology credit not health credit. (or at least the nursing programs I applied to did)

You didn't have any problems with nursing schools accepting the TECEP nutrition exam?

I did not have any trouble. My exam was part of my degree transcript though, just pointing out that it was NOT a credit bank.
