Hello everyone
I currently work at a prison in Florida and want to become a Probation Officer. One of the requirements is a
Bachelor's degree. I attended community college after High school back in 1989 and then went into the Marines. After I got out I moved to Florida and went to a community college here. I then attended AIU but did not finish.
I am looking at applying to TESC or UMPI for a degree in Business or Criminal Justice. I don't know if the credits from AIU would transfer. If they do maybe the BA in Computer Science from TESU

AIU is a Regionally Accredited institution, so those credits should transfer just fine. How old are they? I believe TESU has a limit of ~8 years for the Comp Sci Area of Study and at least half of your AoS classes need to be newer than that. Which would mean that you might be able to use SOME of them for Comp Sci, others would go into electives.
Does 400-level signify upper-level credits there or are those LL credits?
You cannot easily get a TESU degree in Criminal Justice. You can easily get a degree in Computer Science and/or BSBA Computer Information Systems, even if half your AIU credits won't count.
A Criminal Justice degree at UMPI is possible, but there is an internship-type requirement. Your current work in a prison should count, but I'm not sure. You'd have to discuss that with UMPI staff. Fortunately, a BABA from UMPI is fairly straightforward.
Would you prefer writing or exams? UMPI is supposed to be entirely papers & projects from now on. TESU has some writing, but the required transfer courses will also need exams.
Did you get an Associate's degree from any of your schools? If not, a free Pierpont degree could be an interesting way to use your existing credits while working on your Bachelor's degree. For instance, you could get a Pierpont BOG AAS with an Area of Emphasis in Information Systems while you work on a UMPI CJ or Business degree. Or an AoE in Business while you work on a TESU Comp Sci degree.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA
Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

All of my classes are from a long time ago
Bronx CC 89-91
Broward CC 96-98
AIU 00-02
All of the AIU are Upper Level. I tried to reapply a few years ago but they wanted me to take updated classes.

TESU would want some updated classes for a Comp Sci degree, but you could at least use part of your AIU credits there. The credits will be more or less useless at UMPI for a CJ or BABA.
UMPI will likely be a bit faster and cheaper, even though CJ appears to be one of their slower degrees. You could theoretically get a BABA in 4-6 months from now. I estimate 6-10 for CJ.
TESU will be able to utilize more of your existing credits, and you could get BOTH a Computer Science degree and a BSBA CIS for not much more effort than just the single degree. But they're not as fast as UMPI. The final term alone at TESU takes 3-4 months.
So which do you want more? Criminal Justice or Computer Science? Would you prefer to write, or would you prefer to take exams?

The truth is if I want to get a Bachelors as quick as possible and if I can get it at UMPI I would possibly do that.
Also I saw that I can apply for Pell Grant and maybe VA benefits.
I would then try and get the Computer Science degree later.
Based an all my classes do you think I should apply now or maybe take any Study.com or Sophia courses first.

I would go ahead and fill out more of your gen eds with Sophia before applying to UMPI. I suggest the following:
US Government
Introduction to Ethics (Ancient Greek Philosophers may be helpful for passing this course)
Art History I
Human Biology + lab AND Environmental Science - Or take Intro to Chemistry + Lab and your Health class might count, depending on how it transfers in. You do NOT want to take UMPI's science.
Intro to Sociology
I believe you have the rest of the GEC (gen eds) covered. You've also already got more than enough for your electives.

Multiple people have recently reported finishing their BABA at UMPI by completing 10-20 courses in a single 8-week session. The BLS degree should be even easier to complete in a single session. If you need "any" bachelor's, UMPI will likely be fastest and lowest cost.

The Pell Grant will only apply to your first bachelor's degree, so choose it carefully. The typical cost for the BACS degree at TESU is ~$8,000, so Pell could potentially reduce that significantly, especially if you complete a flat-rate 15-credit term.

I would apply right away to UMPI and TESU to see how everything transfers.

This is a great point!
Also, it might be difficult/impossible to come back for a Comp Sci degree later. TESU requires a certain number of NEW credits in the Area of Study once you have a degree. You already have a lot of credit toward a Comp Sci degree that would, essentially, all get wasted if you came back later for Comp Sci.

Since you stated that you're 50+ it seems you need more of a 'check the box' bachelor. To make the most of your existing credits you might want to consider UMPI's BLS with Management minor. It would likely be the quickest and lowest cost for you.

When you're transferring in credits, TESU can be just as fast as UMPI.
I would do the BSBA CIS and at least grab the free Associate in Computer Science. Looks like you already have all the courses needed for AS CS.

If you can start TESU by Nov, you would graduate in March 2024
