Hi Guys,
i'm completely new in this forum or PLA, or "fast" degree, or credits transfer or anything like that. Just found out this system few days ago and do very hard work research what is this all about an how this will help me get my degree. This system not existed where i live, in Indonesia i think.
I dropped out from college at 6th semester (School Counseling dept). I'm certified Hypnotherapist and NLP trainer and has become psychotherapist for about 4 years now. Will all of that worth any credits?
I'm planning to get Psychology Degree in TESU.
So, based on many chats, email with universities, forum threads ect still confuse how to make my degree plan. My concerns is how to get it as fast as i can reasonably get.
Here is my questions,
- How many credit allowed to transfer to TESU from Study.com, Straightline.com and Tor College Credit?

Because that is different institution, how i submit all those credits? Did i need to gather all of that in my place and sent it to TESU from my place, or make those institutions sent it to TESU for review? -- Other official that i have to send is my previous college credit, TOEFL test ect. for enrollment.

If every official transcripts have to send from its' official office, meaning all of that sent in different time, will TESU collect that and if i am not meet the requirement will TESU send it back to me?

Lets say i can transfer credit up to its maximal limit, then what is the fastest way to get another credit? Portfolio, TECEP or DSST? -- I'm in Indonesia, so i will prefer online-based test, and there are no CLEP Test center here. And also working with Academic Credentials Evaluation

And lets say i can transfer credit up to its maximum limit, and i willingly work hard to finish more credits needed, how long will it take to finish my degree? Is it even possible to finish it this year?

I wrote 13 books on Psychology, is that count for credit?

What is the best tuition plan for me, in this case?
I'm sorry, but could anyone tell me step by step what i should do to get my degree in TESU? If so, i would not need to by DIYDegree from Jay Crocs then.
Currently This Is what I'm Gonna Do:
1. I will take some psychology course on Study.com and Tor Credit College based on what i haven't learn in college before and TESU course requirement
2. Preparing my TOEFL and and previous college credits transfer with Academic Credentials Evaluation
3. Enroll to TESU.
4. ???????????
And i know, i definitely need to work with my English, and i'm working on it while preparing my TOEFL hilarious

You can transfer up to 90 credits from a single source, and you can transfer all your credits except for the cornerstone and capstone. You can certainly use your books as a basis for a PLA portfolio. Look over the psychology courses in the PLA course database to get an idea of the possible courses you might be able to earn credit for by PLA:
Thomas Edison State University | Prior Learning Assessment Course Description
People have done it in less than a year, it depends on how many credits you already have and how fast you are able to complete courses. Tests are generally the quickest, but the PLA process can go really quickly too. Especially when challenging a number of similar courses.
Credits generally are transferred directly from where you earn them... Except for courses that are accepted because they are recommended by ACE, those credits must first be put onto an ACE transcript then sent to TESU. TESU evaluates all of the transcripts you send in. They do not return any of them to you.
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

TESU allows credit transfer up to 90 credits FROM A SINGLE SOURCE, but i'm planning credit from multiple source such as Study.com, Tor Credit College and straightline so i can take parallel course to make me earn more credits (because Study.com just allow 2 exams per month).
And, do i need to put credit from Study.com ect to ACE?

I'll build on what Davewill already answered for you:
"I dropped out from college at 6th semester (School Counseling dept). I'm certified Hypnotherapist and NLP trainer and has become psychotherapist for about 4 years now. Will all of that worth any credits?"
International credits will need to be evaluated, TESU has a policy for this. It's not as straightforward as if you had USA credits.
"So, based on many chats, email with universities, forum threads ect still confuse how to make my degree plan. My concerns is how to get it as fast as i can reasonably get."
You have to complete the degree requirements, so the pace is set by you. For instance, if you have the requirement Intro. to Psychology for 3 credits, you can look at the ways to meet that 1 requirement. One way is through testing, like CLEP. Another way is through online self paced classes like through Straighterline. Another way still is taking a full semester online course through a college. If you take a CLEP test, you can go take that test today- so the question is "how long does it take you to LEARN the content so you can pass the test?" We don't know that answer, but as you take more tests, you'll be able to tell how long it takes you to study. Some might be able to do it in 3 days, others in 3 weeks, others in 3 months. After you meet that requirement, you go onto the next requirement. The sum of all your requirements is the length of time. Anything less than 4 years is winning. Many people can do an entire BA degree in 1-2 years.
"Because that is different institution, how i submit all those credits? Did i need to gather all of that in my place and sent it to TESU from my place, or make those institutions sent it to TESU for review? -- Other official that i have to send is my previous college credit, TOEFL test ect. for enrollment."
Each company or college you use is a little different. In short, there will be an official record that you forward to TESU. You'll do this with each company or college you use.
"If every official transcripts have to send from its' official office, meaning all of that sent in different time, will TESU collect that and if i am not meet the requirement will TESU send it back to me?"
The document is received by TESU and they will update your progress. There is nothing to send back to you, since the transaction is between the company/college you used and TESU. You simply pay for the service of them sending an official transcript. In many cases, it's a digital file.
"I wrote 13 books on Psychology, is that count for credit?"
Probably not. Credit isn't a demonstration of your work, credit is a verification that you've completed a specific set of tasks. It's unlikely that writing a book will match any specific set of tasks.
"I'm sorry, but could anyone tell me step by step what i should do to get my degree in TESU? If so, i would not need to by DIYDegree from Jay Crocs then."
It is my opinion that anyone with enough discipline and resourcefulness to complete a degree this way doesn't need to pay anyone a penny to help them. But, many people do, so that's an option.
"I will take some psychology course on Study.com and Tor Credit College based on what i haven't learn in college before and TESU course requirement"
Yes, be sure the courses you take match the courses you need for the degree.
"Preparing my TOEFL and and previous college credits transfer with Academic Credentials Evaluation "
Yes, do this as soon as possible.
"Enroll to TESU"
sounds good!
"And i know, i definitely need to work with my English, and i'm working on it while preparing my TOEFL hilarious
"
I think your English is quite good Keep going, you can do this, it just takes some time to learn the rules.

Hello CoachPutu, Welcome to the board...
My wife is in the same shoes as you, she's from Asia and has been taking English courses right now to brush up and learn more.
We're doing the following to have her BS Pharmaceutical Sciences evaluated and then find out what she needs from the Big 3 for a US Degree.
1) The first thing I would do is get your International Education evaluated by one of the authorized evaluation agencies.
2) Find your program, apply to whichever of the Big 3 after your evaluation has been done and get them to review it for credit.
3) Big 3 will tell you what you're missing in regards to which degree you're wanting to take from them, i'm assuming a BA Psychology?
4) Take the required or missing courses from ALEKS (For Math Only), Saylor, Straighterline, Study.com, Tor College Credits or elsewhere.
My suggestion, don't take them as the first step, it might duplicate what you already know, take them AFTER you know what is required.
Since you're into doing everything online, those above are recommended, you can take TECEPS for missing credits if needed to fill void.
BTW, your English is fine, how did you learn English that quick/fast? I'm trying to find ways to help improve my wife's English as well.
Hope this helps, you shouldn't rush into things as it should take at least 6 months to a year to finish this degree. Thanks,
PS: I created a guide for beginners: http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...llege.html
It's more of something for myself and my wife to help us both get our degrees, so I thought it would be helpful for others as well.

Thank you for your kind reply bjcheung77, that help me clearing my degree plan.

I almost take those courses as first step, because i thoughts it was the easiest step and i can do that right now. I compare TESU's course requirement and planned to take what (i think) i missed.
Since you are outside US, may i ask what evaluation agencies you maybe recommends
bjcheung77 Wrote:how did you learn English that quick/fast? I'm trying to find ways to help improve my wife's English as well
Actually, i didn't learn English that quick, i have learn since High School from uncommon sources, i like songs read and memorize the lyrics and figure out what thats mean, i'm a movie lover, most of it Hollywood's, and i practices english by watching movies without subtitles (for pronunciations and listening skills), or watch with English Subtitles (not Indonesian), so i can learn about the sentences and spelling. Last, i'm a book addict too, and there is no days spend without reading, join Scribd.com membership and get access on soooooo many books that deepen my knowledge in the subject while learn English (sure i still have Dictionary besides me, in case there are words i didn't know).
But i never attend formal English course, that make me afraid about TOEFL Test, so i enrol to TOEFL Preparation course few days ago.

You're welcome, I'm glad to be of assistance. I'm actually in America! :coolgleam:
My wife's been here for 6 years and I've been here for a long time (since I was 5).
See TESU Thomas Edison State University: Apply as an International Student
You need to have the course-by-course evaluation, not the basic reports option offered.
The prices range from each evaluation agency, but my wife is going to go with WES.
Chose the most useful option, I think it's $205-$250 for the full evaluation with GPA.
Note: You may also want to check out COSC, Charter Oak State College for Psychology.
