Natural Sciences CLEP - vs Algebra CLEP
#1
I have zero science knowledge and zero math knowledge, but I need 6 credits to finish my AA at TESC. The Natural Sciences is 6 credits. If I pass I would be done as I need 3 credits in Science. The Algebra is 3 credits, and I would have to find another CLEP to finish for my AA. I struggled with the Liberal Arts Math (course, not CLEP) and did pass. Can anyone tell me how difficult either test is and how much studying I would need to do to pass given I don't know anything about either subject? If there is a list somewhere if someone could point me there. I tried searching Natural Science and it came back with nothing.
Thanks.

It sounds like you may be a good fit for ALEKS, an online math "class" program. About seven of their courses are ACE accredited, so they do count for college credit (see this page --> ACE Credit Courses ). Basically, ALEKS assess your initial comprehension of the course's math skills and then guides you through learning the areas you are weaker. It is all online and can be completed at your own pace. In order to complete the course and earn college credit, you must prove you have mastered at least 70% of the course material by taking an assessment and scoring 70% or higher. Some people will are already familiar with the math in a course may score 70% or higher on their initial assessment, in which case they are done with the course and may apply for a transcript from ACE.

The courses are quite learner-friendly. You will work through different sections of the course and fill up your "pie chart," which shows your course progress. In order to complete a section, you will work on a specific type of problem (for example, in the statistics course, probablility), and if you correctly answer two or three consecutive problems, it will be added to your pie chart. Once you answer each question, they will show you the answer and exactly how to work the problem.

Once you have assessed at 70% or higher, you can apply for your college credit to be approved by ACE. First, you must set up an account with ACE ( College Credit Recommendation Service (CREDIT) ) and submit a transcript request from them. ACE will then confirm with ALEKS that you have completed the necessary amount of material to recieve credit for the course. If you have, then ACE will approve the credit and you will be able to send an ACE transcript to any college that grants credit for ACE credit-recommended courses.

If you would like to take the Natural Sciences CLEP, I posted my thoughts on the test towards the bottom of this post ----> http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...post136709 Since you don't have any science knowledge (by the way, if you took highschool science, you will already have a head start on this test), it might be difficult for you. I already had a fair amount science knowledge before I took this CLEP (highschool biology, Biology CLEP, Astronomy DSST, and the Environment and Humanity DSST), and it was still a tough test for me.

Let me know if you have any more questions! Smile

Thank you VERY much for this! Based on your comments for the NS CLEP I am going to try for that one because it will satisfy my entire degree and also because I already purchased one of the books and had signed up for it. I just need to move my test date I think. The links you gave for study guides and info will really help me and I so appreciate the time you took to respond to my question. Thank you.

Thank you Westerner! I will also use these very helpful tools. I really appreciate your feedback.

If anyone else has study tools or guide links online like videos I would love to know about them. As a visual learner they will really help.
