NFA National Fire Academy FREE 3 credits - FEMA SID #?
#1
Someone on the forum mentioned to me that I should take the 3 free credits offered by the NFA. However, when I attempt to register on the site, its asking for a FEMA SID # ? Does this sound right? or is this FEMA ID # something new and how do I get it?

The FEMA SID is a sort of new requirement.

These classes are for responders and for prepared civilians first, and not really aligned as college credit. US Gov has had a bunch of training all over the board, and recently they have been trying to pull it all together to make it easier to get grant money for, stop overlap, and present a cohesive plan.

For that reason, all of the training I've been getting is now starting to be logged under my SID.

I am betting that eventually, this will tie into a program for responders, that when you show up to an incident, they can swipe a badge or something and see what you are certified to do and what schools you have current.

A SID is no big deal, and there are no negatives associated with it. It will not get you any better seating on the trains, for instance (just joking)...

ok, I was able to follow a link to get a FEMA SID #. It does seem to be geared toward a job related training as it asks you for your employers email address and phone # where you work. I entered my personal ones and was able to register for the SID #, which inturn allowed me to register on NFA's site for the free courses. So it looks like its a go. After I complete these 3 NFA courses, do I then add them to my ACE website?

Yes, after you complete these, you can add them to your ACE Credit Registry to store those credits. Just like the ones for the Free Ethics and TEEX courses.

FEMA Student ID (SID) numbers are better than them always asking for your SSN at every class or course. It has become my second most use Gov't number for me!hilarious

Add NFA to your ACE Transcript as soon as you complete each one.:hurray:

So I took the Q0118 course for 1 credit at NFA last night and omg, it was painful. I passed with an 84% but it took me HOURS. Any tips/strategies for taking these tests? I have 2 more to do.

***Also, for anyone new who is looking to take these courses, you only get 3 chances to pass the exam (per course, of course). My suggestion is skim the notes, and go through it cold turkey first to get a feel for it. Then you have 2 more chances to refine your studying.

Unless they've changed it, they let you take it more than three times. It said three chances only back when I took it, but it didn't stop me from going over.

They very well might have corrected that, however.

For the FREE courses, the technique to finish them fast is to have the course materials open in one browser, and the exam open in another. So, one window for doing the test, one window with the course material for you to review. It was rather painless to get theses credits. Have you checked the Beginners Guide thread or the Basic Approach - Online Education Guide, you can review the latter on degreeforum.wikia.com ; jsd and a few members have updated the info on the wiki.
