MyTESC Evaluation is done!HELP WITH WHAT CLASSES I CAN KNOCK OUT FAST/OUTSIDE TESC

IrishJohn Wrote:I know all of these, but SL now has a new course called Financial Accounting. It's not clear to me yet what TESC will transfer this class as. The ACE National Guide recommends 3 LL credits, but then also says the same about SL's Managerial Accounting which TESC accepts as an UL course.
Oh, I didn't even know that. Thanks for pointing it out.

Can219 Wrote:Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to contact NC's accounting board to make sure they will accept a degree made up of CLEP, DSST or Straighterline classes. Just want to make sure.

Can219, most states require 150 credits to sit for the CPA, which means you will need a Masters in Accounting, MBA in accouting or a graduate certificate in accounting- all to fulfill the extra 30 credit hours. In addition, the graduate program WILL normally require 12 hours in accounting undergraduate courses. You MUST first determine if the grad program you seek will accept ACE recommended credit hours (grad programs normally accept CLEP credit as the first two courses).

So, along with checking the NC CPA Board, please check the grad program...

Some schools offer CPA-track accounting degrees at the undergraduate level that are 150 credits. Some may argue that you might as well just get a master's, but some of these schools allow the extra credits to be transferred into a master's program. The bonus is that you can take graduate accounting courses at the undergraduate tuition rate.

Great points!! Thanks so much...I am still confused and lost and trying to sort through it all. I called NC accounting board and I explained my college accepts Clep, straighterline etc....and if that was ok. They said as long as my college is "accredited" with one of the accrediations on their list It would be fine. And TESC is...But now I will have to check on the masters thing....It seems like it makes more sense to do that if you have to get all those credits. Does anyone know if any online colleges offer a masters in accounting? Just curious....I want to have all my ducks in a row! THANKS AGAIN!

University of South Dakota has an online MSAcc programme for quite cheap tuition iirc. I don't think you will find a better school for a lower price.

The Naveen Jindal School of Management at UT Dallas (UT Dallas as a whole isn't really better than USD but Jindal is an exception) also has a MSAcc programme which isn't officially offered fully online but all the courses are available online and you don't need to attend in class in order to get a degree. This is because Texas requires classroom instruction for at least 15 semester hours of accounting or something of the sort for CPAs. The drawback is that it's expensive even for TX residents, so non-residents really get quite a bill. Other nationally recognised schools like UConn are also on the expensive side.

Of course, if you're relatively young (MAcc programmes tend to be very young) you could go hunting for a Masters in Accounting programme at a local state university. It's not like NC is short on good public universities.

Most state schools have online versions of their Masters programs. They may not all offer Accounting, but enough do that you can shop and find something to suit your specific budget and needs.

To repeat Publius' comment, be very aware that not all states accept these fast-track credits for CPA certification and expect butt-in-seat (or at least their online equivalent) to fulfill the requirements. NC might accept CLEP or even ACE options, but if you ever move or are transferred, you'll be subject to the new state's requirements. If you're confident you'll always stay in NC, some of the fast-track choices may work for you. Keep in mind that, in the global business world, many employers send their people around to support satellite offices. Earlier this year, I know of two accountants from one corporate office that were transferred to another, and the company paid to have them certified in the new state. Having that flexibility to move about can mean a lot. Alternatively, there are so many schools that offer these same requirements in self-paced versions, and they ARE fully-accredited and easily transferred without concern, and most are very budget-conscious. The easiest way to find them is to go to your region's accreditation website and go down the list of institutions, and do a quick search for online or self-paced. I was shocked how many in-state options I had, but unfortunately did not find them until I was pretty much done.

Where do you find the small writing that a State does not accept clep or ace classes? If that is a state's rule would it be on Becker.com?? Thanks.

In other words...I have checked NC and Florida because these are the most likely places we will move to .....CAn someone show me a link that shows in writing non-acceptance of the clep / ace credits? I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. These states do have specific classes I need to take but I do not see any restrictions on Clep / Ace in NC or Florida. THanks Again everyone!

I don't see anything on the NC sites about not accepting Clep or DSST. I did find a list of required courses though.

Thank you PJBarney! I looked up florida on the website link you sent and they do have the "NO CLEP " Requirement! Big decisions! Our biggest problem is not knowing for sure where we are settling down! Complicates everything ~ We narrowed it down to NC and FL. But FL would be an issue.
