My first Clep is looming! I think I'm lost! Please help!

I'm taking the intro to psych CLEP. I studied the REA book once and took a practice test. I got about a 70% correct on that test and was starting to feel confident. Then I started hitting the insacert questions and I'm getting like 10% right!!! Are these really the questions that are on the test? I'm not sure if I should study my REA book harder? or should I just take the instacert questions?

If you have time until your test, use it wisely. Take the other 2 practice tests in your book. Don't take the same test twice. Use Instantcert like flash cards- you don't have to type in your answers, just view them.
In short, do both.

Instacert cards are usually spot-on, I'd reach for a higher score before taking the exam. . . . which was a breeze with IC, for me.

I took Intro Psych last year (my very first CLEP) and along with the REA Guide, found Peterson's Practice Tests to be extremely helpful in gauging my readiness for the actual test. For $19.95 you will have 90 days to access 3 different tests for your particular CLEP exam.

CLEP Practice Tests

If you think you need more in depth information - I used the textbook "Psychology" by Henry Gleitman. Most used texts are very reasonably priced and can be purchased from Amazon or other book sellers.

Good Luck! Smile

I am going to go back in time to the first CLEP I ever failed and hopefully help you relax a little. I walked into the Psychology test having studied some things I printed out because I forgot that I had the CLEP scheduled due to my school schedule back in 2003. I received a 45 out of 46 on this exam and failed. Now I am a somewhat fervent reader of psychology books in 2003 WITHOUT INSTANTCERT. But now lets fast forward to 2009 I am on the ball to finish my degree going after 33 credits with the Thomas Edison Advisor not knowing whether to laugh or tell me good luck. I take Human/GrowDevelop 65/50 Educational Psych 55/50 and Sociology 67/50 using the Instant Cert cards. I am a believer that Instant Cert covers these topics at a college level with the best coverage. You should feel confident and go through the flash cards. I did not have the time to do it to the extent I would have liked before the exam, as I had much to do in a short period, but I learned a great deal through those cards and the extra research I decided to do later after completing the cards and the tests. With Instant Cert I went 3 wins no losses. I believe the REA book should help, but the Instant Cert Cards, should incite confidence. I hope that you pass with flying colors, and that this story of failure and later success gives you the courage to hit the test out of the park on your way to your goal. Do go through the flashcards until the ideas are set in your mind.

This was the 1st test I took. The specific feedback section in this forum is invaluable. Along with the flash cards. Like you I was very nervous, but once I took it and passed I was hooked. Smile It is hard, but try not to stress too much, study wisely. You will surprise yourself. Good luck!!!

Just go through the instant cert questions, don't bother to type in (time waster). I like to go through each section twice, the second time I randomize the order of the questions. When tired and finished studying, always book mark where you left off.
YOU WILL DO FINE!
