My WGU Evaluation and Completed BSBM
#1
I'm just putting this information out there, hopefully it helps someone in a similar situation. Attached is my original WGU eval and my ACE course/cost breakdown. I used a garbage AAS from a closed school and ACE to transfer in the maximum credits and completed the BSBM in less than a term (easily). Total cost for the degree came to 4778.47, that is the combined cost of all of my ace classes, all supplies (calculator, etc), all of my application fees, and all of my transcripts sent in for evaluation to excelsior, wgu, cosc. Not too shabby if you ask me.

My situation: needed a bachelors to compete for higher paying positions that my AAS didn't cover, since the AAS was from an NA school my transfer options were limited.

The best evaluations I got were from Excelsior and WGU, WGU gave me a block transfer and Excelsior was just as generous so there was only a couple classes difference between the two. I began by taking courses that would fit both degree plans for the WGU BSBM or the Excelsior BSBA. Over the course of 6 months I had acquired enough credits to force me into a school decision. I ended up going (very slightly) in the WGU direction just to avoid having to take a couple Upper Level classes. I also liked that you could start and finish WGU whenever and didn't have to sign up for capstone or cornerstone and wait out the completion of those courses.

I found this program to be very easy, after spending several months taking tons of SDC business classes most of the WGU program was review and there was plenty of overlap. I told myself that it would keep my study.com pace of 2 classes a month to avoid having to pay for a second term and that turned out to be a great pace that was kept without sacrificing weekends or my social life. I was able to do a fair amount of study/writing in between work responsibilities which helped out a TON.

The WGU classes (in order) I took were:

Ethics in Technology
Employment Law
Workforce Planning Recruitment and Selection
Spreadsheets
Business Management Tasks
Change Management
Training and Development
Business Strategy
Business Management Capstone
Operations and Supply Chain Management

If anyone has any questions about specific classes I would be happy to help.

The speed at which this can be done is a great value, I had 12 weeks left in my term when I finished. If I hadn't have had financial limitations or taken so long to decide between WGU and Excelsior I have no doubt that the complete degree could have been had in well under a year for less than 5K.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing your story. With 12 weeks left in your term, I think WGU will pro-rate those unused weeks. It might be worth inquiring about, if you haven't already. Either way, $4778.47 is a good deal for a bachelors!. Good luck on applying for some of those new positions too Smile

Congratulations! Thats a great accomplishment. 31 credits in 3 months is very fast.
Can you please share how long did it take you to finish your" BM Capstone" and why did you choose to "Operations and Supply Chain Management" to be your last course.

Thank you. They will only prorate after term 1, that would have been nice though.

Thank you.

I had a rough draft of the capstone knocked out and submitted in just a couple of days -it got returned with a couple sections needing revision but only took about 30 minutes to correct and resubmit for a pass, for all WGU papers I usually just submitted my first drafts and if they got returned for revision it was always something minor. With evaluation the entire paper took 4-5 days. I will tell everyone who will listen - don't be afraid/intimidated by the capstone, this is an EASY class its just lengthy.

I chose Operations and Supply Chain Management as my last class just because it happened to be a test and difficult to find the 2 hours of testing time. I wrote on the capstone during work and had it finished much sooner than expected. I had originally planned on taking it before the capstone but it just kind of worked out that I had a lot more time to write during work and not much time to take tests after work. I will say that the Operations class PA was more term based and the actual OA was more situational, the OA and PA didn't align as well as some of the other classes but if you know the material you'll pass both.

Update on diploma/graduation timeline.

Finished last class on 10/10/19, submitted application for graduation on 10/11/19, got a (glowing) letter of recommendation from my mentor on 10/15/19, received congratulations email and lost access to the portal on 10/16/19. The email stated that the official graduation date was 10/15/19.

Got the "diploma has shipped" email on 10/17/19.

I really liked the fact that I didn't have to wait until the end of the term to graduate/get diploma which was one of the slight reasons I ended up at WGU.

Congratulations! That's awesome! So you took 10 classes at a rate of 2 per month for 5 months and had 12 weeks left in your term? I'm not too familiar with WGU, how long is a term? Also, had you taken algebra at your tech school or was that waived as completed because you transferred in a completed associate's?

Yes, I had planned to do 2 classes per month because that was my study.com pace but I ended up out pacing that for the WGU courses.

A term is 6 months and you are expected to finish 12 credits a term (4 classes).

I had taken algebra I and II previously but yes, nearly all my GE credits were waived for transferring in an associates (it waived math, geography, composition, etc)
