I was reading through the notable alumni from TESU on Wikipedia and came across Arthur C. Brooks. He went from this:
Quote:Next came what my parents affectionately called my “gap decade,” during which time I made my living as a musician. By my late 20s I was ready to return to school. But I was living in Spain, had a thin bank account, and no desire to start my family with a mountain of student loans.
to attending TESU (BA), then Florida Atlantic University (MA) and then Pardee RAND (PhD). And now he's a professor at Harvard:
Quote:Arthur C. Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and Beth and Ravenel Curry Scholar in Free Enterprise, will join Harvard Kennedy School in July 2019 as a professor of the practice of public leadership. He will jointly serve as a senior fellow at Harvard Business School. [1]
The title of this thread comes from an article he wrote for the NYT describe his degree and perspective on college education. Here's a link to the article [2] And here's an archived version you can read without subscribing to NYT [3]

This is cool! Some numbnuts several years ago said that TESU graduates never go on to high-level or prestigious positions, and they couldn't get into high-ranking graduate schools.

A very memorable (and ironic, now) statement from the article he wrote:
Quote:Not surprisingly, my college experience has occasionally been the target of ridicule. It is true that I am no Harvard Man. But I can say with full confidence that my 10K-B.A. is what made higher education possible for me, and it changed the course of my life.
Funny how time changes things.

<gasp> It wasn't me! - I agree it is cool, a few Big 3/WGU graduates have gone to top ranked schools in various fields. I'm just looking through that window as I haven't stepped into that front door yet. I guess, I'm waiting my turn if it ever comes...

That's so true, many start from small colleges and work their way into the better/bigger and more recognized schools. With that initial Associates and/or Bachelors, it'll lead the way to graduate school opportunities...

I ALWAYS tell people to spend as little money on their bachelor's as possible, if they want a grad school degree. Save your money for that.
One of my daughter's friends had $150k in her 529 plan. She wants to be a nurse practitioner, so she has a lot of schooling to complete. She got accepted into many schools for her BSN, but ultimately chose to live at home and go to the local 4yr state school for it, and pay about $28k. That leaves her a big chunk to go wherever she wants for the MSN. Much smarter than paying $100k to go to her first choice, a private school 90 minutes away - she figured out that the MSN was the ultimate goal, and that the BSN was just a step along the way to that.

Yes, there are a few people on this forum that have gone from the Big 3 or CBE's into "better known" grad schools... People start from small beginning and work their way up and that's an amazing accomplishment for many. For myself, I am looking to follow their footsteps, I don't think I'll go into management or teaching though, but yeah...
There are a few "Notable Alumni" for the other Big 3/UMPI
Here's COSC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_Oak_State_College
And Excelsior: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excelsior_College
UMPI: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University...esque_Isle
TESU: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Edi...University
LOL, I just noticed Steve Levicoff is on the TESU one too!

And guaranteed, that numbnuts' (well-phrased and deserved!) accomplishments are nowhere near those of Dr. Brooks. Don't panic, "Numby!" I hear Taco Bell is hiring!
PS - I like the OP's forum-name. Ganapati is the Hindu God who removes obstacles. God of wisdom and prophecy. Great choice! This forum removes obstacles too!
