My Journey to TESU BSBA GM - Advice/encouragement welcome!
#11
Gymfan15 Wrote:If you'd like to see my class plan, please check out my spreadsheet below:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing

Any comments/advice welcomed! If anyone would like to take a look and point out any errors I may have made, I'd appreciate it; I'm new at this, haha.

A few notes:
- I've organized my spreadsheet by priority and question marks; so the classes at the top are the ones that I'm not sure exactly how they'll come in as.
- TESU gave me credit for the History MOOC that I did through Liberty. I re-did that class through StraighterLine when Liberty only gave me that class as free elective credit; I'm pretty sure TESU will duplicate them. If they do, what happens? Does one get sent to free elective or do I simply not get credit for it?
- I'm looking into seeing if TESU will give me credit for my Chinese proficiency certification, but if not then I'll need to fill my Humanities slot.
- Can anyone tell me if Study.com's Busi 309 will fit into the AoS Marketing slot?
- I'm wondering if I can appeal TESU putting my Intermed Business Applications class into the Business Elective slot instead of the Computers slot. My issue is that I have another class from Liberty that wasn't on my original transcript (because that class hadn't posted final grades when Liberty sent my transcript) and I have no idea how it's going to come in. I hope it'll come in as my 5th AoS class but if not, it needs to go into Business Electives but those are already full. Anyone got any advice on this?

Your spreadsheet is completely confusing to me, so I can't help with that part. I just can't figure out what you've already taken, and what it came in as, to help figure out what you can take or move around or anything.

Any time a class comes in with the same course number, it will be a duplicate, and won't be counted.

No on the Chinese proficiency cert unless it was ACE or NCCRS recommended. But you can do ACTFL instead.

BUsiness 309 comes in as MAR-441.

You can always ask for courses to be moved, but the problem is going to be if it fits where you want it. What was the course number they gave Intermed Bus Apps?

Sorry about the confusing part; *I* understand my spreadsheet but I realize it doesn't always translate. Wink The crossed out classes are the ones I've already finished; IP indicates In Progress (or will be starting soon).

I *didn't* have the TESU course numbers in there so I went and hunted them down; thanks for that reminder because it was EXTREMELY helpful! I found out that my History class WON'T duplicate because TESU gave my Liberty course a different # than SL's course, so that means my Human Cultures requirement should be filled. And if not, it'll go into my Free Electives and I can use that spot for something else.

My Inter Med Busi Comp class came in as CIS-299 and went into my Business Electives. So I'm not sure if I should try and ask for it to be moved into my Computer Concepts slot or if I should just let it be and take the course through Study.com for the CIS102.

I'd leave it, but I have a class from Liberty that will be coming in and I'm not sure where they're going to put it because I can't find any simple equivalency in TESU's own courses. The course is Non-Profit Management and it is 400 level at Liberty. I'm not sure if they'll take it as an AoS Management or just Business Elective; in which case I need the CIS-299 to count as my Computer Concepts.

Thoughts? I'm not sure how it works when there's no simple equivalency at TESU for what courses come in as.

ETA: Actually I realized that I'm hoping for Non-Profit Management to go in as my AoS Elective. I guess I won't now until I resubmit my Liberty transcript...let's see if i can talk Liberty into sending the transcript for free since they didn't post final grades in time...

Do you mean the CIS-299 went into the 6 credits of free electives at the very bottom, or it went into the 18 credits of AOS? You may not want to use it in the AOS since it's not UL. Of course, that will depend on the other courses you choose for AOS since you need to hit the required UL amount.

Edit: I just looked at your spreadsheet. If I am reading correctly, you have the Business in Society course completed through Liberty. If that is the case, I would definitely knock the MAN-372 from your AOS choices, unless you really want it. I am currently working on it and it is the longest, and most painful course that Study.com has. There are 4 large papers you need to write. Unless you absolutely want that specific course, get rid of it because it's not worth your time or annoyance level. There are many easier options from Study.com that can fill that slot.

Edit again: You have a few courses that are 300-course codes from Study.com. You can use 100 level courses that will come into TESU as UL and avoid unnecessary projects from Study.com. The only one I think you would need would be the Digital Marketing course and that project was an easy slideshow. You don't need to do Operation Management or the UL HR Management course. There are available options for management courses that will satisfy the UL requirement and are easier courses.

For example:
Business 105 Labor Relations LAS-321 - no project
Business 106 HR Management MAN-331 - no project
Business 107 Organizational Behavior MAN-311 - no project
Business 121 Intro to Entrepreneurship MAN-230 - no project (currently 2 credits but should soon be up to 3)
**Also if you needed to finish before this gets bumped to 3 credits, I currently have an HRM-299 course in my evaluation but I have no idea what course it was. It is only for 1 credit but it would pick up the slack from only getting 2 credits for the MAN-230 course. I believe this is an NFA course, or the Sophia team-building course and both were free.**
Business 309 Digital Marketing MAR-441 - easy project
And then I did ACC-201 from SL to fill my third requirement (ACC, MAN, MAR) and to avoid more projects. Study.com has said they are working on ACC-201/202 so if they finish them then you can use one of those and there would likely be no project as a 200-level course.

These are just some suggestions for you to make your plan a little easier. If all of these options had been available when I was doing my AOS, this is the path I would have taken.

You keep mentioning Business Electives, but unless you're in an older catalog (mine is 2014/15, and I do have business electives), there are no Business Electives. If you mean "Free Electives", that's completely different. Obviously you can use business courses in the Free Electives area, but there just aren't business electives in the current BSBA plan.

The current setup for the BSBA is Core courses, and then AOS courses (6 courses/18cr needed). The area below that is Free Electives (6cr). This is in no way related to the business area, and I wish they would be more clear on the website that it's Free Electives, and separate it from the Business Core/AOS better, or even put it up underneath the Gen Ed Electives.

It went into the 6cr of Free Electives. I wasn't planning to use it in AoS; but in the Core Computers section. But if Study.com's CIS 102 course is easy enough, I might just do that and be done with it. I love computer stuff anyway. :p

I'll keep the MAN-372 under advisement...writing doesn't necessarily bother me but it depends on the subject. I need to go back and look at what other Study.com classes I could use to fulfill the AoS requirement; I know I'm not planning to take Advanced Financial Accounting but I really *don't* want to; Accounting is painful for me, lol. The 6cr I've already done of accounting were the longest and most work-intensive of my life.

It's the latter; you're right. I'm referring to the 6cr of Free Eelectives, not the 20cr of GE Electives. And by AoS Elective, I'm referring to one of the 6 AoS classes that are required that fit into of the categories (since I've already fulfilled the UL/AoS diversity requirement).

For the GE Electives, it can be pretty much anything that falls into the History/Social Sciences/Humanities/Science/Math/English categories, right? I now understand why that Vietnam War course is so popular, haha.

I just edited my last post again. Please read the second edit as it contains available options from Study.com for your AOS.

What did they give as the course equivalency there?

There is no UL/AOS diversity requirement. There is a Diversity requirement up in the Gen Ed area, but it's not required to be an UL course. The AOS doesn't have a diversity requirement at all. There probably isn't a diversity-related course that will fit in the AOS at all. Wrong course equivalency.

For the GE Electives, it can be pretty much anything that falls into the History/Social Sciences/Humanities/Science/Math/English categories, right? Yes

Read my replies above in red.

^^ By diversity I meant the fact that I have to have classes in 3/4 of the AoS areas...initially I was having difficulty doing that but now I'm fine, I'm pretty sure. I've been able to find classes in ALL areas so I can be more picky with what I want to do.

TESU didn't give me a course equivalency for what course # I need to fulfill my Computers requirement; under the header it says "C: Computers 3 SH (Not started)
Choose an Introduction course in: Information Systems; Computer Literacy; Computing w/applications such as Word Processing, Spreadsh eets, Databases.
For TESU course options, please contact an Advisor "

I would have thought Computing w/applications such as Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases would have covered my Liberty class because that was precisely what I did; it was Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Access. \

@ndelcollo; thanks for that info! I will add that to my data and use that to help make decisions when it's time to take those classes. I'm definitely really appreciative of any practical advisement about classes from people who have taken them!

It would be something like CAP-### or CIS-### or COS-###. Not the course number that Liberty called it, but the course number that TESU called it.

I would have thought Computing w/applications such as Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases would have covered my Liberty class because that was precisely what I did; it was Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Access. \ Definitely not. TESU wants a general course about computers, rather than applications. I'm guessing that they gave the course a CAP prefix (?), and then stuck it down in Free Electives for this reason.

Getting it now. It might have been easier to post your eval on here for us, that normally makes it easier to figure out.

^^ They gave it CIS-299.

I thought about posting the eval originally but the formatting gets so messed up in the transfer...ah well. Here it is for reference. The only thing that has been evaluated is *most* of my Liberty transcript; they don't have any of my UExcel, SL or S.C credit yet. And it's missing one class from Liberty so this is not a complete list of the classes I've completed. I've completed 51cr so far; adding 6 more next week and will keep on a pace of 3cr or more a week until I finish.
