Morningside College - MA in Teaching for $160 per credit hour.
#1
When I first accidentally stumbled over this degree, the way they have it listed confused me because the information is all over the place. I found their brochure about it though and it makes much more sense. $160 per credit hour is a great deal. This degree can be even cheaper since you only have to take 18 credits with them totaling $2880. Then being able to take the additional 18 credit with other affiliates that would cost even cheaper possibly $230 per 3 credit course at VESi. If that was done that would be an additional $1380 for those 18 credits. Totaling $4260 for the whole degree... and they are regionally accredited.... all you need is a teaching certificate...

http://webs.morningside.edu/gradedu/...ochure_000.pdf

Although you could possibly get it cheaper than that sense they have other affiliates that the 18 credits can be taken from besides VESi... they are also listed in the brochure...

The more I talk about it the more I am considering it as a second Masters... after I get that teaching certificate which was on my list anyway...

Thanks for posting this. The link above didn't seem to work when I tried it, so I'm going to post it here:

Thank you Norema for the information. I have a friend that is a freshly minted teacher and she will love this information. She does want to get her masters asap so she can qualify for a raise. I did not realize that Morningside takes up to 18 credits in transfer and they can be from Vesi? That is a great deal, and alot easier then standard online classes. Wow 18 credits, excellent.

Thanks you

I am finishing my last 9 credits through VESI. Better, it's GRADUATE credit. From a regionally accredited instiution. They have many partners. Unlike ACE, the schools are the one who transcript these courses. They run just like ACE though pretty much.

The school I'm taking my VESI course is St. Catherine University. But like I said, they offer many colleges/universities. Make sure you select '"Grad Credit", because TESC doesn't accept "contining education courses".

They are self paced. Can practically finish them within two weeks.

Western New Mexico University was willing to accept 6 VESI credits transcribed through Morningside College in their MAIS program...its a great deal!

Ace, you need to start a thread on that...I would really like to hear what you took and how TESC transcribed it! Upper level credit at that price and time commitment is amazing. With so many courses available I wonder if you could rock out 30 UL education credits and fill out a degree plan? Not quite as cheap as CBE, but still really affordable!

Will do! I will create a new thread regarding VESI later today. But for those who are interested and want a sneak peek before I create a new thread…VESI offers courses from a lot of colleges/universities, I don’t remember the amount but it’s a lot! You call VESIs 1-800 number, tell the course you are inquiring about and the school and they sign you up. No need to call the college/university, you call directly VESI. It’s LESS course work than ACE courses. I took Violence in Schools, Child Abuse, Drugs and Alcohol in Society and they will transcribe coming from St. Catherine University with a letter grade. They transcribed as GRAD credit, and upper level obviously, but counted for my social science requirements. But wow I am amazed. 3 multiple choice exams per each course, you have up to three chances to take it, if you didn’t get a passing score the first time around. Than you have I believe, three journal articles you have to write about, with 400 word limit and three discussions that they give you the question and you must write 500 word response. I finished one course already in two weeks!! The price is $300 for grad level credit. TESC does not accept continuing education credit. But my friend transferred 15+ VESI courses as continuing education credit to Excelsior and they accept them. But let me get confirmation on that. Non-continuing education courses are MUCH cheaper, like $200 a course. Yes $300 might be a little bit high for a course, but considering it’s grad credit AND a letter grade is good. Also, other VESI partner institutions offer grad level courses for much cheaper, like $250.

Here is where I signed up. St. Catherine University Continuing Education - Distance Learning for Teachers - Professional Development for Teachers

But anyways, I will create a thread soon , regarding the specifics of VESI, this was just a sneak peek Smile

I am a bit slow to comprehend new information like this so I'll make sure I come back tomorrow.
I am currently enrolled in an instructional technology course at USF and its a graduate level education course. I don't know exactly what I am doing with it but I might finish a 4 course grad cert in web design. Or maybe I'll use that plus some VESI courses to get a MEd in record time.
The thing is, I am not a licensed teacher so the MorningSide College MEd won't work for me. Is it just a "credit laundering" facility? Do I take the VESI courses, have them transcribed through morningside and then transfer into a school that does a lot of transfers?
I am very interested in being able to pull together a second masters in short time. Thanks for the post.

Ryoder...

I wonder if you could cobble it together at AMU/APU, if I remember correctly they take up to 12 credits in transfer and have 8 week semesters. There are several Masters to choose from. I was going going to use the VESI through Morningside for a criminal justice requirement at WNMU. There are possibilities here...

What was the other school that offered a great deal of transfer Masters credit? Ashford? Amberton? I can't recall.

Sorry I am actually out of town.

Regarding VESI, you directly call VESI. For example, I am taking the courses at VESI's partner, St. Catherine University. However I am dialing VESI to register so, 1-800-313-6744, St. Catherine University has actually no involvement through the process. I don't call St. Catherine University after either to send a transcript, VESI will take care of you all the way. It will be transcribed and will be issued a letter grade from "St. Catherine University".

And I didn't know this, but I thought they had more courses before. Like accounting courses, or math courses, or general ed. But the courses that VESI offers are pretty much " teacher-education" courses.

So I take back my "they are similar to ACE", not as much. I mean they run like "ACE", where you take the course somewhere else and ACE will still issue a transcript etc. They do not have different course offerings like ACE Sad

My three courses will be transcribed as this, as I already had an adviser approve them.

4.. EDUC530V Violence in Schools...... (3.00) --- SOC-499 *PL *GR *TE
4.. EDUC530V Drugs & Alcohol in School (3.00) --- SOS-499 *PL *GR *TE
4.. EDUC560V Child Abuse.............. (3.00) --- SOC-316 *PL *GR *TE
