I was just at the Dept of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) yesterday, and the person I am working with guaranteed to me that they would be able to cover the cost of my Capstone course ($1,473) and graduation fee ($299) through TESC, even though the college is out of state. So, if Marc Singer approves me to go ahead and pursue PLAs with the $350 credit I have left from the scholarship, that means all of my credits and graduation fee needed will be paid for!
For anyone on the forum who is new and doesn't know my story, which is long, I had a knee injury that put me out of work in 2012 but I wasn't able to collect unemployment since I worked on 1099s. I had surgery on my left knee in January, but now also need surgery on my right knee (same issue as the left) and have a herniated disc... so I won't be going back to my old job anytime soon. I was completely unemployed until last November, and now have a tiny job doing marketing that I usually get between 8-10 hours a week but doesn't pay hardly anything.
I joined DegreeForum in June of 2013. I'm not eligible for federal financial aid anymore, but thanks to the people and information here I started out working on FEMA credits (5cr) while applying for a scholarship. In February 2014 I won $125 scholarship which covered applying to TESC and sending over my transcripts. I scraped together the $111 to take the Abnormal Psychology TECEP (3cr) and registered in the fall. Then in February I took the Psychology of Women TECEP (3cr), which I paid for out of pocket. In March 2015 I won a $600 scholarship from the same organization as the 2014 scholarship, to cover 15 more credits ($111 Tecep, textbook, and $350 for a PLA review). Now of course DVR will be covering my capstone course (3cr). I actually didn't need this many credits to complete my degree, but just to fulfill the 24 credit residency since I am on the pay per credit plan.
I am currently going back and forth with TESC regarding the PLA process, but if everything works out this means that I'll have earned 29 credits and invested $222 out of pocket personally. If all works out, I will be graduating in December! cheersmate My point is that if you are on a really tight budget, don't give up! Also, apply for scholarships because you just never know. If you don't win the first time, or don't win a large amount, keep trying.![Smile Smile](https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/images/smilies/smile.png)
I'm planning to apply for graduate scholarships this fall, so I can continue my education... regardless of the job situation. I'm sure something will come along at the right time.
