I also used the American Government Standard Deviant's videos and the REA book. I studied about a week and managed to pass. It was a tougher than I thought but doable.

Have you tried the Peterson's tests for Am Govt? I didn't know about them before I took the Clep Am. Govt., and I might have scored higher (66) had I been able to practice beforehand.
IC,Hippocampus, Standard Deviant videos, REA (a quick read-thru at Barnes&Noble) are what I used to pass. I studied 2 months before I felt confident enough about Am. Govt. to take the test.
Good luck.

I used IC, Peterson practice test and some spark charts (US constitution, know which amendment does what), and American government. I also did some research on line to better understand the electoral college, primaries and election funding reforms and limits. Make sure you understand what checks and balances work where. I passed but I felt you really had to understand the info to pick the right answer. Some questions said all of the above EXCEPT and some said pick the BEST answer. Those are hard unless you have a good understanding of the subject.

i passed with 72 out of 80. peterson's practice tests were the best gauge - i continuously scored in the 70s on petersons - its supposed to only be for military personnel but there is no one checking if you really are - i happen to have a mom in the service so i qualify but it seems like it would be easy to just say you are and take their practice exams - or if there is a pay option id take that - it was very helpful in gauging the test - the questions were VERY similar - in fact i found the actually test questions a bit easier - and everything i got wrong i studied - still ended up with a 72 -
