Missed Spanish Clep by two points.
#1

I needed a 50 and received a 48. I am now pulled from my student teaching placement effective immediately until I complete the foreign language requirement.

I am broken hearted. 6 weeks with the students and now poof..all that work.

I need ideas on how to complete this Spanish asap. Are there other tests? Is there an accelerated course that I could have the 6 credits within the next two months so I can get back in the classroom by Jan.? Has anyone ever heard of testing out at a university? I am sure I could make up those two points...and all things considered, I have not taken Spanish since 1984; But I also lived in Italy for 6 months, and have used the Spanish frequently over the years. It had to be something silly like a conjugation that I got wrong. Sad

I am at Fairleigh Dickinson University. I have begged them to reconsider and give me some kind of credit for the 48, but so far have no answer.

I have 140 credits and my Masters thesis completed. All that stands between me and my Masters/BA degree is 7 more weeks of student teaching and this damned foreign language.

I will consider any and all suggestions. I have an appointment to speak to the dean on Monday; any help will be appreciated and rewarded. It is so incredibly difficult to get this far and hit the wall. :ack:

Yes, use the forum search- I don't have the few minutes to do it for you- but there absolutely is another exam, it might have New York or NY in the title. Sorry I can't be more help, but wanted to get you going in the right direction ASAP.

**Edit** Here is a thread, there are many : http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...guage+Exam

Thank you so much...
Meanwhile I am also trying to come up with a way to convince the dean to accept my scores as is, or let me take the two semester finals through FDU's foreign lang department and "test out" if possible. If anyone thinks of another convincing argument I am all ears.
I have a 4.0 as well..so basically they are removing a 4.0, 140 credited, Masters thesis completed almost graduate from student teaching despite knowing when they put me in the field that I did not have the credit yet, but they let me go in the classroom anyway and now are pulling me. It just seems so unfair and unnecessary. I prove I have foreign language ability; I have translated at my fiance's medical office, lived abroad, etc...and yet here it is. Just looking for a miracle.

I'm not sure if this will help you. UExcel now offers a Spanish exam. Its 3 credits not 6 so it may not be for you. UExcel - College Credit by Exam

Best wishes.

I feel ya. I missed it by one point, but it was not a requirement for me. The only tests I know of are mentioned above. You could try searching online for some class you could complete quickly.

UExcel is probably your best option, but there is at least another one: ACTFL Certified Proficiency Testing Programs (oral and written) - American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. It is a very different type of exam, but you can get ACE approved credits for it.

You were so close!

As mentioned before check out the new UExcel exam, the website says it is 6 credits.

Also look at the BYU exam. The price and set-up (listening and reading, no speaking) are similar to CLEP. It is worth up to 12 credits. Read this thread starting at this post. It gets a little off-topic from BYU and then goes back to BYU results:

You'll need to check with your school for acceptance of these. I hope you find what you need to finish.
