Help with Planning out my courses ~
#1
Well after going around and around I've decided to pursue a degree in Human Resources and if I have the time I will do a double major adding on accounting. Honestly I am overseas and I don't feel confident teaching myself accounting. I'm being realistic. My plan is to apply by July 1st and enroll the end of December. I plan on having as many "outside" classes/credits done as possible before enrolling. I do plan on taking one class at Tesc so I will probably start that class in January (Bussiness Communications) ....Then if I have the time I will go after the accounting double major which is an additional 24 credits. It would be great to knock both out in the one year I pay for at TESC. Accounting also offers many more opportunities and better pay. Plus having both degrees just gives me more job options. I really hope I will be able to pull it off. So at this point I need help again planning my courses: Please fill in all options that I can transfer to TESC. Being overseas they do not offer all the Clep and DSST Tests here.

Congratulations on deciding a path. The HR degree is one that cannot be fully tested, at least I was not able to find full test-out options. Is cost a major consideration? I ask because I tossed an ePack course down under your HR core electives, and while it is a CBE-like format, it is priced at the full per-credit rate (yet will only appear on your transcript as pass/fail just like a TECEP), so you'll need to hunt for a replacement if that is too much money.

Also, if you double-major before you apply for graduation for the first Bachelors degree, you will not need the full 24 credit difference, at least not in my experience when I briefly added a double major in HR and Ops Mgmt. That 24-credit difference only applied if you complete the first degree and graduate...then return for the second degree (and going that route, you'll have a three-month wait of wasted time in your enrollment period because you cannot start earning credits towards that second degree until the first has conferred). So if you're really considering the two degree path, and I think it's a solid plan, I'd recommend having both degrees added to your transcript now to lock in the current requirements for both degrees, then evaluate your situation as you're nearing the end of the first degree; if you're still gung-ho and have time to knock out the second one, great! If not, it just takes an email to have them remove it with no questions or references on the transcript of dropping. Because of those points, and because many of my core courses were able to overlap, I've recommended below that two of your Business Electives for the HR degree to be overlap credits from your Accounting core plan to save yourself some time.

BSBA Human Resources:
3 credit Business communications=TESC course
3 credit humanities
4 credit humanities
3 credit law 201 = CLEP or ECE
3 credit Prin of Finance = Penn Foster or DSST or ECE

3 credit Business in society/ Intl Mgt = DSST or ECE
3 credit Strategic Management = TECEP or Penn Foster
3 credit HR management = DSST or ECE
3 credit Organizational behaviour = DSST
3 credit Organizational Theory= (once enrolled, see if BYU's ORG B 320 independent study course will fulfill)
3 credit HR elective= ECE Labor Relations or CSU ind study MGMT410
3 credit HR elective = TESC ePack Industrial Psychology
3 credit HR elective= (once enrolled, see if CSU ind study MGMT414 will work...Small Business is an applicable HR core ele, so it might)
3 credit Business Elective= (one of your accting crossover courses to spare yourself some time with that dble major)
3 credit Business Elective= (one of your accting crossover courses to spare yourself some time with that dble major)
3 credit Business Elective= DSST Prin of Supervision

Thanks Mrs. B for all the info and insight. Actually TESC told me I had to complete the first degree completely before adding the accounting degree. Wonder if they just told me wrong....I will have to investigate further before applying. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Thanks again!

Well Mrs. B pretty much got you started, but if you need Humanities credits and cannot take either A & I Literature or Humanities Clep, then you may want to consider Penn Foster's Art and Music Appreciation independent study classes. I didn't take them but I have read here that they are pretty easy and stress free. Also Penn Foster has some other courses that *may* work for that degree like Labor Relations and Compensation Management. I didn't take those classes either but just giving you some ideas to look into.

Here is a very helpful discussion from December, if you scroll down you will find a list of Penn Foster classes approved by ACE (as of Dec. 2012):

Clep's Passed: Humanites 70, Sociology 60, Psy 74, HG&D 61, EP 64

Definitely check with someone else at TESC about adding the BSBA-Accounting with the BSBA-HR/Org Mgmt simultaneously; unless policies have changed dramatically in the last year, and I haven't seen such a posting, you were given incorrect information. I had no issues getting two versions of the BSBA added (HR/Org Mgmt and Ops Mgmt). Specifically, talk to Patricia Certo. She handled most / all of my evaluation additions and subtractions and knew her stuff with the business degree plans, and is the one that added my dual degree plan, and then removed the second degree when I decided I did not want to go that route after all. No issues, she was fantastic to work with and never once steered me wrong. If you send a general email to Advising with BSBA in the subject, she's the one that answered 99% of the time, but if she's not, set up an Advising appointment with her.

Also, bluespecial is 100% correct that Penn Foster's Compensation Management and Labor Relations (and a few other HR courses) are good to use. Make sure their ACE approvals are still intact, but I had PF's Comp Mgmt approved at one point, but chose not to take it because I did not want too many ACE courses (personal reasons due to the requirements of some of the graduate schools / programs on my short list when I get motivated to continue in that direction).

Alternate suggestion... You cannot fully test out of all the HR requirements, so instead of taking Business Communications as your TESC course for a GPA, why not use one of the less-expensive distance options for that (Penn Foster or Straighterline), and take Organizational Theory from TESC, and/or one of the approved HR elective courses to save yourself a little bit of tuition money?
