This is what I found out and wrote about last week...

Excelsior and FEMA

I inquired to Excelsior for my son about how many FEMA credits they accept if he went for the BSLS degree she stated that...

if the FEMA credits are all he has, we could accept up to 51 credit hours in the applied professional area at the lower level. Please note he must contact Frederick Community College or Clackamas Community College to have the FEMA credit transcripted.

The only thing I think that she forgot about was the 1 credit Information Literacy course which is lower level, so with that I guess they'd actually accept 50 transcribed FEMA credit... if there are that many any.

Just think,

50 possible Applied Professional & Depth FEMA credits
30 possible Arts and Science & Depth GRE credits
30 Arts and Science Clep credits
9 AP or A&S Dantes UL credit
1 Information Literacy

It would be so great if it could work that way. With the GRE credits you could have a name branded Bachelors of Science in ??????? degree, versus the generalized Bachelors of Science in Liberal Arts degree.

When I looked on FEMA's web site for ISP courses, there were well over 50. I then looked to see how many were transferable to Clackamas which were 43. Only 2 additional credits could be obtained from Frederick. However Clackamas only allows 18 credits to be transcribed per term. Making the process of transcribing 43 credits around 9 months. Leaving only 5 additional credits to be obtained while acquiring the remaining credits for other areas by way of taking cleps, dantes and the GRE. These less stressful type of courses would be a great way to get fast and easy credit.

Can someone verify that if you transcript the credit through Clackamas or FCC and it's sent to Excelsior, is each FEMA course counted as one FULL semester credit and not one 0.67?

It is unfortunately .67 through Clackamas. I found out the hard way... that was so disappointing. I believe it is 1 credit from FCC, but I'm not sure... if they run by semesters instead of quarters like Clackamas then each would be 1 credit.

We're you able to somehow get 50 credits from fema? or around 42? (Before Clackamas turned them into 0.67)

Basically, what's the maximum amount you can get transferred because not all fema credits are worth college credit?

FCC works on the semester hour basis, so you get 1 semester hour credit not .67 like at Clackamas.
