Math requirement for AS technology (excelsior)

Good morning everyone!

I was wondering if you could help me with a math requirement question
In regards to math my degree requires the following:

At least 6 credits must be earned in mathematics at the level of College Algebra or higher [MAT 116 Precalculus Algebra, MAT 118 Trigonometry, TECH 201– 202 Foundations of Technology Problem Solving I–II].

Does this mean college mathematics won't meet the math requirement?
If not, what CLEP or DSST math tests should I study for?

CLEP MAT-121 College Algebra
CLEP MAT-129 Pre-Calculus

Excelsior also accepts ALEKS courses on an ACE transcript. Benefit of ALEKS, assessments are self-paced, can take 4hrs+ if needed, and are non-proctored.
ALEKS College Algebra
ALEKS Trigonometry and/or PreCalculus (*see post)

You can always use college mathematics as general education credit.




*Looks as if Excelsior gives credit for both Trig and PreCalc. (They duplicate at TESC.)
Take advantage and run through as much available cheap credit as they will allow with ALEKS options: Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, PreCalculus and a Stats course if interested.

Thank you so much for your response! I was getting impatient since I had not received a call from my adviser.
I am so going to need ALEKS because I am terrible at math and I know I am going for a technology degree, but I am terrified of the math. I don't want to give up just because it is hard.. oh man I was bummed but maybe there is hope for me with these courses..
So if I take ALEKS college algebra and statistics that would fulfill the requirement? oh my!! thank you!!!

If math is not a favorite, I would go with college algebra and then either trigonometry or precalculus, statistics is harder. Ask your advisor if they would also approve intermediate algebra for added GenEd credit. I would begin with intermed and allow the foundation taught to guide you through the remaining courses; they all build on each other.Good luck!

I would agree with Bricabrac, statistics is much harder than the other two on ALEKS. If I remember right trig requires the odd Aleks plug in for it to work right, just like statistics did. 80% of the time it is fine, but I had a couple assessments that pretty much locked up because the plug in crapped out and the questions failed to load the important information...like numbers and what I was supposed to solve or. I didn't have any issues with preclac as far as everything functioning properly.

Thank you so much for your help after reviewing the algebra clep content, it doesn't seem impossible. I may be able to study for it and then pass the clep.
After algebra, I think I am going for calculus and see what happens.
