Hello everyone! Some of you may remember me from a few months back... after finishing my undergrad, I've been busy moving, traveling and adjusting to a new job. But... I'm back! This time thinking about my Masters degree. (?!?!?!)

I have done a little research, but not much and thought I would ask all you very qualified, experienced people on here for some help.

First, how do you recommend choosing/finding a school? I'm not particular about where I get my degree from--I'm just interested in the continued education. I would like to find a program I could do online, probably one to two classes at a time, with a focus on International Relations.

Second, I know I need to take the GRE. Any advice? What is the test like, what resources should I use for studying, how much time should I expect to spend preparing, etc? Also, is it necessary/beneficial to take any of the subject exams?

I feel a little guilty just asking you all, because I know I can find answers to these questions somewhere on the internet. But I thought if any of you have experience, it will probably be more beneficial than Google. And I can always try that later on, if I need it.

Ooooo you should do Harvard's new International Relations program!! I love Harvard's Extension and it is pretty flexible. You don't apply in the traditional way - what you do is complete 3 courses in your major (just pay the money and go) and after completion of those, you can apply as a degree seeking candidate. No GRE. They are very clear on the website that they use the grades from those courses as the predictor of success and use that as your criteria for admission. I know you need a bachelor's degree- but it can be in anything and this is a perfect fit for people who tested out of a lot because they don't have undergrad prereqs.
In a nutshell, it will be 9 classes plus a thesis. 6 can be distance learning. So, the remaining 3 must be completed in Cambridge, however you can do that during summer school (7 weeks). So, either 3 residencies or 2 depending on how many classes you take both times.
Each grad class is $1800 (4 cr) plus books.
If you are able, they also provide international experiences that count as credit (see summer school link).
There are 2 brick walls in this program.
1) financial aid is for enrolled students only, that means anything you take before admission is out of pocket.
2) the thesis is a killer.

HI guys,

I just started my first class at University of the Rockies. A graduate school offering Master's and Doctoral degress. It is regionally accrediated. A private "for profit" university. Good customer service so far. I get an email at least once a week from my advisor.

This is a completly online program and will give me a MA in Psychology, with a specialization in Organizational Leadership. Basically how to manage change within organizations. They also offer other focuses such as Business, Executive Coaching, Non-profit management.

The best part about the program is that the classes are only 6 weeks each and you can work ahead as fast as you want. So that means that once you have your textbooks and logon, you can finish your entire 6 week class in 1 or 2 weeks if you want. You will still have to engage in online discussion (2 or 3 per week) with classmates, but that shouldn't be too tough.

I think this is a great program so far . It's worth looking into.

I was with you up until the 7 weeks of in residence courses. I would love to travel to Cambridge but for a full time working adult this is simply not possible. Great looking program though and the Hrvard name probably goes a long way in the workforce. I'm sure this has been asked a million times but does Harvard list either on the transcripts or the degree itself that it was done via distance learning? That would also be a potential negative...i don't know how I missed this thread.

NOPE. I dropped after completing one class. I tried to take another class however they have major computer issues, dropped me for "not attending" although I had attended and completed assignments. They also changed the books on me after I bought them.

They might be a good fit for some people, but not for me.

Good luck all. I am looking for a new program that doesn't require tons of research/thesis work. Anyone who has an idea on a good Master's program please private message me.
