Managerial Communications and Accounting at the same time? (with full time job)

I'm finally near the end of my journey. I applied to Thomas Edison and need to take 3 TCEPS and 2 TESC classes. For the TESCs, I am planning on taking MAN 373 - Managerial Communications and ACC 102 - Principles of Managerial Accounting. I will have finished the principles of finance DSST so will be a little brushed up on accounting. Ideally I would like to knock them out in 12 weeks and be done with formal classes. Has any one taken these two TESCs at the same time before?

I would strongly recommend looking into Straighterline for your two TESC classes, Managerial Communications and Accounting. Both are very easy classes. I finished both of those within 2 weekends. So your 12-week goal is way doable. As far as doing them the same time, i dont see why not, but what i did was, I knew i would be taking both through SL, so i ordered my text books for both classes, paid the monthly SL fee, and then paid and started my first class. Then once i finished that i started my next class. With SL i believe you can start your course withing a day or so once you pay for it.

I have not taken these courses through an actual full-term TESC class. If you just need them completed, SL is the way to go, but if you NEED them to be an actual full term TESC course, which im not sure why they would need to be, then i am not much help with that.

Thanks for the reply. I read another post you wrote. You seem a bit ahead of me. Maybe you can help me a bit further.... I am also going for the BSBA. I'm told that in addition to pulling in all my transcripts, I will need to complete at least two TECSs online in order to qualify to graduate. Is this accurate? I just enrolled today, but haven't had a chance to speak with a counselor yet.

Do you see an easier path forward for me? It looks like Principles of Finance and Federal Income taxation are the toughest on the list below. Can I use straighter line for those? I've posted my current plan below. Also, will I need to complete a capstone project?

For a BSBA you don't need to take any courses through TESC, if you can transfer in all the courses you need. IDK what you mean by "two TECS online"...someone told you that you need to take two TESC classes in order to graduate?

For BA degrees TESC requires 1 capstone course; for business degrees they require BUS-421 "Strategic Management". Which you can take as a course at TESC or transfer it in from Penn Foster.


Are you in some kind of tuition or military plan that forces you to take courses at TESC?

Before I found this site, I was enrolled with CollegePlus. I since quit with them because there's no need to pay through the nose for their services. They told me that I needed to complete at least 2 TESC courses (online 12 week courses). I'm not sure if they meant to qualify for their partnership "discount" (Not at all a discount if I look at total out of pocket to CollegePlus and TESC) or to qualify to graduate.

If I can avoid TESC courses I'm all for that. Do you have suggestions for CLEP, DSST or SL alternatives to the courses I need to complete?

I am not 100% sure how you're degree plan is structured, I enrolled before the July 1st 2013 changes, you seem to have just enrolled.
Ironheadjack is correct, you should be able to transfer in almost every course. You will need to take a capstone. Although, lucky for you, the capstone for the BSBA can be done as a full term class, or as a TECEP (unless they changed it). I took my capstone TECEP for this degree just last April. Also what Ironheadjack mentioned, there are a few alternatives from other colleges for the capstone, that you might be able to transfer in.

For my degree completion i have not had to enroll into a single class. But i just enrolled in a full term online class, ONLY because i want to establish a GPA. but as far as my BSBA requirements go, i've tested out of and transferred every class on there.

Principles of Finance was a tough one but it is doable. There is a TON of helpful guides and information in the specific feedback section on this site. I took the Dsst as well so I am not sure if there is a SL alternative.

You should speak with a counselor ASAP about your academic evaluation. Once they post your eval for you. Go ahead and post it on here. A few of those classes you are planning on taking have easier/cheaper/simpler alternative. But it is hard to see what you need without your degree plan posted.

I would still recommend SL for your Man. Comm. and Accounting. But look into Straighterline and their reviews and feedback and other threads about those courses. Do your homework before you sign up because it may or may not be for you.

Hi Gawn210, I'm also doing my BSBA through Thomas Edison, and also came from CollegePlus!.

There is no requirement that you take a number of TESC courses, but you have to find the equivalent to the required courses in another test/course.

For my requirements for a BSBA General Management degree, TE turned the Principles of Managerial Accounting into a TECEP, so I only have one course, the Managerial Communications TESC.

So definitely sign up for the TECEP for Accounting instead of the course, if you can.

If anyone has an easier equivalent test for Managerial Communication, I myself would be interested in knowing what it is so I can save time/effort.
