anyone have issues trying to get air force tuition assistance to pay for this course? they said because lsu uses an outdated system it would take them all kinds of paper work. Is there anyway around this? or am i going to have to pay out of pocket?

If your ed office says it is OK then it should be OK. Having to do "all kinds of paperwork" does not equate to paying out of pocket, it just means you have to use the old paperwork process that was used for decades. No problem, let the ed office guide you, that's what they are there for.

do you mean BYUs TMA 150 (speech)? I just finished this recently and TA was easy to fill out. It depends on the laziness of the ed office contractors on them registering their ed center with BYU. Langley gave me an issue with it, Ramstein took care of it instantly. If you're in the AF, fill out an ICE survey and complain. Contractors do not like negative performance and will correct their employees if they get customer complaints.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

That would've been good to know. I ended up paying out of pocket cause they kept referring me to the colleges offered on base and kept telling me to cancel the course. Anytime I ask for anything they try to get me to enroll in one offered here. Straight retarded . They act like they work commission.

I had more trouble getting BYU to accept my TA because they'd never done business w/ my base before. They wanted my Ed Office to fill out some type of credit paperwork. That's too bad about your Ed Office. If you are working on your CCAF, then TA will pay for any class at any college (w/in cap rates). You could take classes at 5 different colleges--it just does not matter--as long as they are required credits to fulfill your CCAF. It's not your Ed Office's or counselor's choice.

If you continue having problems, then I would seek help resolving the customer service/lack of support you are receiving.

That's the problem I initially had. The Ed Office kept insisting they couldn't do anything about it, and BYU insisting they needed the Ed office to fill out the paperwork. It ended up being one of those situations when you need to keep calling and get a different person who gives a dang and will do the leg work they're required to do. With budget cuts, it's only getting worse and the air force is relying more and more on contractors. Coming from a contracting backround though, I know that the knife in the chest for contractors are customer complaints. Fill out those ice reports and they'll clean up their act. future contracts for them depend a large part on their past performance.

On a side note, I heavily recomend BYU's speech class for the CCAF.

Sorry to hear that happened. Definitely file a complaint, that is just plain wrong. TA can be approved in five minutes (from the time you submit via AF Portal to final approval) if you have the ed office rep on the phone at the time. I've done that.

Technically, you don't have to even pursue a CCAF degree (though I highly recommend it!!) but just have any degree plan on file, and they will fund it. As long as the courses match your degree plan you are golden. You are good for one associates (not counting CCAF), one bachelor's, and one master's degree.
