Lost and Need Help!
#1
Hey everyone!

Reading through these posts has been very helpful, but it has gotten me a little lost along the way too (especially with all the acronyms and abbreviations!).

I recently enrolled in TESU after dropping out of college at 19. I'm 36 now, own a business, and really just want to get a degree so I can stop having recurring nightmares of being back in school lol. I transferred 28 credits, and I thought I was basically going to be able to test out for a BSBA concentrating in Entrepreneurship. I am learning that how I wanted to do it is probably not the most efficient (read fastest & easiest) way. I then stumbled across Sophia, SDC, etc., which seems to be right up my alley. But when I try to figure out what I need or which one to go with, I start getting a bit of a headache.

I am hoping someone on here can guide me a little and help me get this crossed off my life's bucket list, as quickly and painlessly as possible. I had an academic eval done at TESU, and I am attaching that so you guys can see. I'm also open to some ideas and suggestions. Thanks in advance everyone!

So I would start with Sophia and complete everything that doesn't overlap. That will knock out quite a few of the courses you need. I noticed you're doing the two PLA courses are you just doing those for residency or are you actually gonna do a portfolio? I'd also take CSMLearn it's a math course that is relatively cheap. Have you looked at the wiki?

Won't help with the nightmares.

But seriously, congratulations on going back.  Making that decision and commitment is the hardest part.

Looks like you've got a very good start on your Gen Eds and some of your other degree requirements.  Unfortunately, I can't help on TESU equivalencies (I'm an Excelsior guy and there are substantial differences), except to point you towards this list for Sophia LLC, one of the most popular alternative credit providers.

The good news is that TESU is very popular around here and there's no shortage of folks who can help.  The wiki really is the best place to start, you'll surprise yourself at how quickly you can amass credit and as the numbers roll by your motivation will only increase.

You've already been pointed at the wiki. I'm going to link you to this page: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sa...ts_Roadmap I don't have the Entrepreneur AOS on the wiki (yet) but it looks to be possible. Give me a bit to add it while you can at least get started on the gen ed requirements.

You have more than enough graded credits to meet TESU's requirements but I'm going to suggest that you take TESU's English Comp II TECEP anyway. It'll go much easier and faster than Sophia's English Comp option.
In progress:

I just grad with a TESU BSBA in Entrep.

Some of my past post will likely help you.

I did all sophia then started filling in with Study.com

Certificate for the Study of Capitalism at University of Arkansas finished July 2022

MBA with Hellenic American University started March 29th, 2021 , finished May 20th 2022, Graduated in June 2022

BSBA at Thomas Edison State University started May 21st 2020 with Sophia and SDC, finished Jan 24th, 2021, Graduated on 12 March of 2021

Total time to complete both degrees 2 years exactly, total cost just a small bit over $10,000

Thanks Degreeforum!

First, if you're looking for the cheapest, you should do COSC, since it's about half the price of TESU. You already have 28cr, so you've met the threshold (same as TESU) so it's all Sophia and Study.com for the easiest way to go.
Different requirements than TESU (below) so if you're interested, ask and I'll help you plan that out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you're 100% set on TESU, here's how to do that the cheapest/easiest way:

1) Cancel your PLA course, you don't need it and it's too expensive
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) Start taking Sophia courses:

WRITTEN COMMUNICATION: English Comp II (if you're a proficient typist, I would do the TECEP instead)
QUANTITATIVE LITERACY: College Algebra

AREA B
ETHICAL LEADERSHIP: Intro to Ethics (I've heard you should take the Ancient Greek Philosopher's course prior to this)

AREA D
Environmental Science
Human Biology

GE ELECTIVES (choose any 5)
Approaches to Studying Religions
Art History I
Art History II
Communication at Work
Conflict Resolution
Visual Communications
Ancient Greek Philosophers
US History I
US History II
Intro to Psychology
Public Speaking

BUSINESS CORE
Accounting
Business Law
Intro to IT
Principles of Finance
Macroeconomics
Microeconomics

FREE ELECTIVES (choose 5cr from below and/or anything not taken above)
College Readiness
Intro to Business
Project Management
Developing Effective Teams (1cr) - I would take this for sure
The Essentials of Managing Conflict (1cr) - I would take this for sure
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) Take Study.com courses
ACC 102: Intro to Managerial Accounting
BUS 101: Principles of Management
BUS 102: Principles of Marketing
BUS 120: International Business
BUS 113: Business Communication
-----------------
MARK 301: Marketing Research (UL)
FIN 306: Small Business Finance (UL)
BUS 321: Small Business Management (UL)

2 LL courses from the following:
BUS 106: Human Resource Management
BUS 121: Intro to Entrepreneurship
BUS 202: Intro to E-Commerce
BUS 203: Intro to Retail Merchandising

1 UL course from the following:
ACC 303: Cost Accounting
BUS 309: Digital Marketing & Advertising
BUS 315: Logistics and Supply Chain Management
MARK 302: Consumer Behavior
MARK 306: Principles of Selling
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4) Take the cornerstone and capstone, and you're done.
TESU BSBA/HR 2018 - WVNCC BOG AAS 2017 - GGU Cert in Mgmt 2000
EXAMS: TECEP Tech Wrtg, Comp II, LA Math, PR, Computers  DSST Computers, Pers Fin  CLEP Mgmt, Mktg
COURSES: TESU Capstone  Study.com Pers Fin, Microecon, Stats  Ed4Credit Acct 2  PF Fin Mgmt  ALEKS Int & Coll Alg  Sophia Proj Mgmt The Institutes - Ins Ethics  Kaplan PLA

jay, since you're in NJ, I agree - it's a great choice for you to stick it out with TESU. You should use Sophia.org for Lower Level courses and Study.com for Upper Level Area of Study courses or courses that aren't offered at Sophia.org - Another option is a Davar/InstantCertCredit combo for a small amount of courses that can be taken cheaper/easier/faster.

Are you going to take 16 credits at TESU or are you paying the residency waiver fee? Do you have tuition assistance or reimbursement? If not, I suggest applying for Pell Grant to lower the cost and pay to take some courses at TESU to rid of the residency waiver fee. You may want to review a few threads that I have previously written in regards to this...

Wow! Thank you so much!!!! The only reason I'm sort of set on TESU is that I'm a resident of NJ and it seems like it's a relatively smooth option.

As for the PLA I and II, I registered, saw the price, and was like "Wait! This is not what I thought it was!", which is pretty much what lead me here. I decided to dig a little deeper, and that's how I found this amazing place. I never paid, so they automatically de-register me, so that should be no problem.

I do have another question though...is it possible to transfer a bunch of credits to a school like TESU, then transfer 90 to a school like Rutgers? Just a thought I was wondering about, getting the brand name on the diploma lol.

Can't thank you guys enough for the help and kind words. I will be using everything you guys mentioned, and I'm sure I'll need more help lol I'll find a way to repay!!

No, that's credit laundering and it won't work that way, schools need the transcripts to come from the original source and on the TESU transcript, it'll show the course was an alternative credit transfer. You can't take courses and transfer them into one university that accepts it, and use those same credits to transfer into another. They'll know it came from alternative course providers and if the school doesn't take ACE/NCCRS, you'll have to redo the requirements to the degree you're applying to....
