Hello all, I was here about 2 months ago, and received some great advice. I used AI to help build a course load, and began my path on my first college degree. That said, I don't know that I inherently trust AI, and could use a bit of your expertise to ensure I'm on the right path!

Your Location: State and Country: NJ, USA
Your Age: 39
What kind of degree do you want?: PoliSci BA at UMPI, which I intend to attend for 60 graded credits, beofre taking the LSAT and eventually attending law school.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:

Provider Total Credits: # 33
Class Name, Credits, Grade

Sophia:
  • Ancient Greek Philosophers; 3
  • Critical Thinking; 3
  • English Composition I; 3
  • Human Biology; 3
  • Introduction to College Mathematics; 3
  • Introduction to Ethics; 3
  • Public Speaking; 3
  • US Government; 3
  • US History I; 3
  • Introduction to Nutrition; 3
  • Introduction to Psychology; 3
And while they're pass/fail, all courses have been finished with at least a 95%.

Any certifications or military experience? No
Budget: N/A
Commitments: N/A
Dedicated time to study: A few hours per day
Timeline: Hopefully enrolled in Umpi by January
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Fafsa; full pell grant awarded

I know I need a lab, so the Human Bio Lab is on the list. I'm trying to discern what general education courses are a *must* at this point. I'm attempting to avoid as much science and math as possible, and focus on writing and comprehension. I am almost done with English Comp 2, as well. It seems I need a foreign language, but I'm intending to test out through Japanese ACTFL

I could use some guidance on which courses are absolutely mandatory for attending UMPI, from a general education standpoint. The GLO requirements are a bit strange to me.

Comparing the courses you've taken to the GEC to Sophia table near the bottom of this page on the DegreeForum wiki, you can see you've fulfilled every GEC requirement except these:
  • 1B, 2C, and 4B you will fulfill with English Composition II
  • 2D take Visual Communication
  • 2E take your choice of Art History I or Art History II. We used to recommend II because it didn't have an assignment, but Sophia recently added an assignment. Take whichever time period interests you most.
  • 3D take Environmental Science
  • 3E take Human Biology Lab
  • 4A you will fulfill with a short orientation to YourPace after enrolling at UMPI
  • 5A take Introduction to Sociology
  • 5C take Japanese ACTFL

This is exactly what I needed! Thank you. I was pretty close in my path, so I'm glad to have someone reinforce it. I really appreciate your time <3

Another option is to do a double major at UMPI, you can transfer in the credits for general education and electives, then do the 60 credits required for the majors as the bulk of them can't be transferred in. Thus, you have a BABA with a concentration of your choice, in addition to that original degree you're looking at, plus you'll be well versed in Business as well!

Hi! I've enrolled in UMPI, and transferred over my credits, but it's saying my GLO3 aren't complete, as my intro to college math isn't accepted as a GLO. Is this normal, or should I contest?

Edit: Aside from that, I completed everything else you listed, and wanted to thank you for your guidance. I hit send before finishing my complete thought. Truly, thank you for the advice, mate!

Intro to College Math isn't a course that is typically accepted for transfer credit as it's viewed as a remedial math course. You can take Introduction to Statistics or College Algebra from Sophia.

Did you apply to UMPI yet? I would apply when you have 90 or so ACE credits from Sophia.org, Study.com, or a combo of them. Max your transfer credits and maybe do a double major. You will need at least 60 graded credits, you can do 30 for one major, 30 for the other major, make sure to hit all the requirements for entry into the law school while you complete your undergraduate studies.
