Looking to get started on a BS from EC

Well, you can apply now to see what prior credit you'll be awarded *possibly*. The eval you get when you apply is not official. You get your official eval when you enroll.

In my opinion, the best way to handle this is to start collecting your credits now, through CLEP, DSST, ALEKs, SL, so on, so forth... Once you have achieved enough credits that you are confident you'll be able to finish the degree in a year, go ahead and apply then, but don't stop collecting credits. The application eval takes 2-3 weeks (I'm on my second week of sitting on my hands for my app eval right now, they're telling me its probably going to be next Tuesday before I find out anything.) Once the application eval is done, you can enroll, and knock out the last of what you need.

The reason that you want to be able to finish off the degree in a year is the fact that they will hit you with a yearly fee unless you take x amount of credits per year from them. The first year costs $895 and subsequient years costs $495 or something along that line. I'm watching every penny I spend on this endeavour so I have to do things strategically, but this may not be your case. If you have the extra money to spend or someone else is footing the bill, it wouldn't hurt to get the ball rolling now.

Until you actually enroll though, you're going to get limited feedback from them on any questions you might have as far as the degree, courses, etc. The catalog does give a good idea, for the most part, on the degree requirements, and the classes/tests you'll need to fullfill them. Other than the BUS495, there is one class that can't be tested out of, but others on the forum have found a less expensive place to cover the requirement.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Oh, yeah, and you're correct about the Math.. But ALEKs can get you the precalc and another class, as well as the Statistics requirement if you want to do it that way.

If I remember correctly, you may have to take a business ECE to cover some of the upper level credits.

Makes sense to me... but I'm fortunate enough to have funding from two sources. My employer offers tuition reimbursement and my dear wonderful beloved stepmother has promised to fund my education. So there's no reason for me to not get started now, especially since my dear wonderful beloved stepmother keeps telling me every time she gets a chance how important it is for me to earn my degree and how happy it would make her to see me earn my degree. I love my dear wonderful stepmother. Smile

So I'm signing on with ALEKS to start working on that math requirement and I'll be requesting approval for tuition reimbursement through Excelsior... a mere formality because I see Excelsior is recognized in their system as an accredited college and this is pretty much a direct quote from my supervisor: "You just need to request approval ahead of time for tuition reimbursement, and that request will come to me, and of course I'll approve it..." Okay, so I'm looking over the posts about getting college credit for the ALEKS courses, and I need a little clarification. If I'm understanding right, I need to spend $40 to enroll in the ACE transcript service. Then when I get a 70% evaluation on an ALEKS college math course, I tell ALEKS to inform ACE by email and then ACE puts it on their transcript for me as a pass/fail. Have I got this right?

Nope... Not quite

You can sign up for an ACE account for free. Once you hit 70% in an ALEKs module, you go to the ACE site, log in, and go to the course search.

Look for ALEKs under organizations, and it will show you a list of ACE reviewed courses. Select the course that you finished, and then click on the Add Course button.

At this point it will show up on the Course List with a status. In about a hour or two, it should change status to Approved - Submitted to ACE for processing.

Once it is approved, you can then go back into ALEKs using the Master account and select another course if you wish.* A few days later, you should get an email stating that ACE has put the course on your Transcript.

*Just in case, you might want to get a screenshot showing that your student account hit 70% before switching courses.

Good to know... thanks!

Yeah, I saw this recommendation in one of the ALEKS threads I looked at... maybe you were the one who recommended it there, I'm not sure. Smile Anyway, it looked like a good idea to me, and I'll be sure to do that.

I've subscribed to ALEKS and I'm starting to work my way through College Algebra. There was a minimal amount there on the opening evaluation that I still remembered from taking it in high school... just a little bit more than I expected to remember now that I'm going back to it after decades away from it. Good to see that I'm still enjoying solving these problems now just like I did in high school... I guess there was a reason why I got moved ahead in math as far as I did! It feels nice to have my brain stretching in that direction again, even though it also feels a bit frustrating and stressful at times. Nice to see that this definitely looks doable at this point.
